What are UNC's peers???

So, I’m new to CC and have just begun my college search. Where I’m from, I often get mixed responses of UNC’s status. Some say it’s an ivy-caliber school, some say it’s a safety for top students and others say it’s good, but not top notch.

Despite the mixed comments, for some reason, I see myself being really drawn to UNC and want to study chemistry and philosophy (I know, weird combination), and have been told I can get into almost any school I want. I won’t provide stats at the moment but I currently am in the top 1 percentile at a competitive private school.

Also, I’ve tried to pull up a list of UNC’s peers, but this hardly helps.

[UNC System-Defined Peer Group - Office of Institutional Research and Assessment](http://oira.unc.edu/institutional-effectiveness/institutional-performance-measures/unc-system-defined-peer-group.html)

The list runs the gamut from Penn to Pittsburgh. Just want some feedback from CC to make sense of everything.

UNC is much more comparable to top public universities than some of the privates named on that list. sometimes target private universities are selected as peers for benchmark purposes.
