so after several threads,I have become curious as to what are some unimpacted majors for UC’s.In my case, I am a chemistry major but I do not know if it is an impacted major as biology.so I want to take the opportunity for people to share information about what they know about what are some unimpacted majors as well as impacted majors in several UC’s such as Berkeley,UCLA,UCSD,UCI,UCSB,UCD,UCSC,UCR,and UCM.

Chemistry isn’t impacted anywhere I believe. It may be hard to get into chem at Berkeley at the CoC but the rest seems alright.

Itransfer is correct. I am a chem major as well, and have done research on this. specifically with UCLA, there were almost 1000 applicants for Biology with a 17% admittance rate, whereas chemistry has almost 300 applicants with a 54% admittance rate.

Usually foreign languages and English majors have ton’s of space.

Except for Engineering, you can pretty much count on any science major having substantial math prerequisites (Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Geology) not being the least bit impacted anywhere. That does not mean these majors will be easy to get into though. I doubt that UC Berkeley gets many transfer applicants to their Astronomy program but that does not mean they are going to accept the one person who does apply but failed Calculus at his CCC.

why is biology impacted at almost everyone college? You dont’ need a biology major just to become a doctor

^True

But biology kills two birds with one stone cause the pre-reqs for med school as the classes you take for the bio major. If you didn’t major in bio you would have to do a whole other major on top of the pre-reqs. There are other majors that overlap pretty well with the pre-reqs like chemistry or public health but bio seems to be the most popular.

The UD classes also help you prepare for the med school and the MCAT. It is also likely that a person going into healthcare is also interested in life science. It is just a common trend.

Another thing I see is that a lot people tend to think that med schools prefer science majors over non-science majors. Which has not proven to be true at all.

@itransfer true that! that would be crazy though if a cello major made it into med school

philosophy at UCLA is really unimpacted. in 2009 the admit rate was 70%, although this year it was around 60%
