I could be wrong but I’ve heard that UofM offers scholarships if you get a certain ACT score and have a high enough GPA. Has anyone taken advantage of this? Where can I find a description of the scholarship or maybe a chart of scores and GPA’s.

I have a friend who got $1500 and she had a 31 ACT and 4.0.

I don’t think there is a level at which students automatically qualify for Merit money at Michigan. But for students to have a real shot at hefty scholarships, a high GPA (3.8/4.0unweighed or better) and a solid SAT (over 750 in each section of the SAT or a 33+ on the ACT) are the standard. But like I said, there are no rules or guarantees.

When I visited Michigan the admissions office said that the top 10% of LSA and CoE get merit aid. My friend (also the smartest kid at our school) got into Princeton, UPenn etc. got about $9,000-$10,000 a year from CoE

are the top 10% scholarships referred to as the dean scholarships?

and what about the other merit scholarships that pay half/full rides? are you automatically considered for these during admissions?

It isn’t very specific, but I think this what I’ve heard people talking about.

Merit award at UM can be very random. I had a 3.95 UW/33 ACT and got nothing.
I think the top 10% of the entering class (~500) get a regents scholarship of $1500 one time.

The Shipman Scholarship is the most prestigious merit scholarship UMich offers. Only 50 students from the incoming class are invited for a scholarship weekend (all expenses paid) competition. 15 out of the 50 are offered the top scholarship of $15,000 + full room & board. For in-state students, this almost comes to a full-ride. For the other 35 students, $7,500 is guaranteed, but this is usually supplemented by funds by individual colleges, so it becomes a substantial amount.

Yes, I have some first-hand info about this (though not necessarily any insider info or about any cut-off scores, etc.), since my daughter was one of the 50 invited this year, and eventually ended up in the 15 that received the highest scholarship.

Thanks karki. That sounds very promising although it is unlikely I have the stats to get invited. Would you mind sharing your daughter’s GPA and ACT or SAT was?

GPA - 4.05 UW (school does not weigh/t)
ACT - 36
SAT - 2350 (800+750+800)
SATII - Math2 800, Chem 770, US Hist - 800 (UMich does not look at SATII scores for admissions, but I don’t know what effect they have on scholarship consideration)
5 AP courses until Jr Year - All 5’s
2 AP courses + Dual enrolled at UMich in Sr Year (Calc III & IV)

All ACT & SAT scores in single attempt.

I got a 20K a year scholarship (OOS), but I’m not going because I got into Princeton.

I got no merit money with a 3.9+, 33 ACT and in-state.
