Santa, last year I asked for a fat paycheck and a skinny body but I got the reverse.
Please make good on this request this year.

“Haven’t gotten Mother’s Day, birthday, Hanukkah or anniversary gifts from DH in about five years”
We haven’t exchanged gifts for any of those occasions for easily close to 20 years. Exception - I did get a pearl ring about a dozen years back that H and the kids picked out, but he’s never gotten me a MD gift and frankly doesn’t give his own mother anything unless I coordinate. Part of it is that his family are terrible gifters, and part of it is that we’re kind of cheap in that regard in terms of spending money on one another when we don’t need much of anything. Our birthdays are also this time of year, right next to Christmas and it’s just too much. We decided that next year we will go to Europe for our 30th anniv but frankly our 25th anniv passed and at most we went out to a casual dinner with the kids. I seriously am not complaining - I don’t want for much and honestly and sincerely when the kids ask us what we want we say - your health and happiness. My kids give us pretty modest gifts too and that’s just fine. I had the 80s lavish lifestyle in spades with my parents where we had tons of gifts and I’m kind of rebelling / rejecting it!

a worldwide renaissance! I think america needs enlightenment but I look around the rest of the world and I see things stuck in the dark ages. so, if collectively as humans the world over we can update the mindset and advance as a species…I would be very happy.
also people should pay it forward even on the smallest scale.
like hold the door for the person behind you. even if you had a long day say hello to people. instead of complain about how hard you work just give that little extra to help out a customer . if everyone does the small stuff, the country becomes a better happier place. (it might sound cheesy but it is true)
