Working on figuring out the new normal without my fluff. So far it sucks.
Not leaving the house due to below zero temps.
Working on an information sheet and master password list for my kids if (when) I become incapacitated
Made plans to got to dinner with neighbors tomorrow and a few friends on Monday.
Reading my library book
Trying to hold it together as there has been another tragic event in my city.
I just finished dusting, vacuuming, washing floors and cleaning bathrooms. I’m going to sit for a bit, then I will probably head out for a walk. It’s 3 degrees with a windchill of 5. That’s actually an improvement over the last couple days.
Today is my busy day before the storm starts this evening. I ran 6-7 miles, did the stairmonster for 40 min; lifted legs, abs, and mobility work. Came home and played piano for an hour, vacuumed for the first hour out of 1:30, quick wipe of the kitchen, made brownies, did 3 out of 5 loads of laundry - I’m washing all our blankets and bedding because if we have no power, at least our blankets will smell nice.
Ate pizza for lunch and will head shortly to the movies to see housemaids. Then I’ll finish the laundry; vacuuming, clean the bathrooms and hopefully have time for some Duolingo/quick nap before we go out to dinner (want to use a gift card). Then tv tonight and wait for the storm…
I have 1.75 books to read tomorrow if we are out of power!
@ClassicMom98 I’m tired just reading that!
I’m such a slacker!
It was -20 this morning, no idea what the wind chill was.
My very exciting day lol
Got a new sleeping bag coat which I am really enjoying. My husband who doesn’t fill his car with gas until the light comes on, needed gas. I pumped and wasn’t that cold in my snow boots and my new coat that comes to my ankles ![]()
Got Tim Hortons for my efforts. Decided to make chicken and noodles for supper but was out of one of the ingredients.
Went to Big Boy, husband and I shared a club sandwich. Got my ingredients.
The house wasn’t even warm this morning and it’s very well insulated. Turned the heat up and put some towels under the window in our bedroom. Decided that I like being warm so now I’m in my warm house with the heat up!
I am very privileged but I told my husband I am dreaming of going to Florida. I don’t even like the warm weather that much! And wonder why I am telling anyone about my very lazy day!
Since I couldn’t sell my old 35mm to the camera store yesterday, and it needs service to work, and I’m never ever going to use it again… I will put it and all the lenses out for “FREE” in the alley with notes and hope someone wants it. (I have no desire to post it on a neighborhood site even if that would get takers. This is my step above just throwing it all away.)
We’ve reached our high for the day of 17 degrees, so I took the girls for a long walk as it’s unlikely we’ll be able to in the near future. H took them out this morning, so they definitely missed their tour of the neighborhood and all the sniffs. H set up our feeding stations for the birds and made sure the snowblower was ready to go. We don’t need it often, but I’m glad we have it. Yesterday I found a tiny bird nest that had blown out of a tree so I’ve been working on some sketches.
I told myself yesterday that I needed to try and be more accepting of my daily life. The stress of managing my mother’s estate, moving, H’s medical issues…I just have been in a state of anxiety and stress for the past 2+ years. For the next few months I am just going to try and be content with building more of a life in retirement. We’ll see how that goes!
We are getting rid of an extra bed - it’s a nice slide-out trundle bed. My kids had so many sleepovers in the extra bedroom on that bed. But the bedroom it’s in is small, and it makes sense to use it for something other than a bedroom (we have 4 bedrooms & the kids are gone). We were going to put it on the area “free” Facebook group, but we don’t want to deal with getting it into someone’s vehicle in the cold.
Just went out for breakfast. Once home, headed to neighbor’s house where they are having yard sale & bought some books & blank journal for niblings tomorrow as well as a large exercise ball. Total price was $6 for everything!
Started off the day making pancakes for the grands, SIL and myself. Babysat grands most of the morning since D is sleeping after working an overnight. After lunch, I made 15 breakfast burritos (eggs, cheese, hash browns and spicy NM salsa) for D to take into work tonight. There is also a dozen assorted bagels with 2 tubs of cream cheese for her to take. The night shift deserves something nice for working in such ugly weather. Also they may not be able to leave in the morning if the road conditions are really, really bad.
Right now I’m doing laundry. Again. And I’m organizing dinner -– homemade pizza for littles and leftover scrounging for grownups. I have a trout fillet in the fridge I’ll cook for myself, but the vegetarians won’t eat fish even if I cooked it for them.
Cats are snuggled up on a heating pad I laid out on my bed for them.
Since it’s winter and all the leaves are off the trees and brush, we’ve spotted several foxes hunting squirrels and other small mammals along the back of the property this week. Such pretty creatures! We’ve put out seed for the birds, but they are reluctant to come to the feeder since we now have a Cooper’s hawk who has decided that the feeder is her new hunting ground. But I did see Ms. Pretty (our resident female cardinal) at the feeder yesterday.
Woke up to -7 actual temperature so did inside exercise, made some sourdough discard biscuits for breakfast - they turned out great!
Went and filled my car up with gas, stopped at a grocery store for just a couple items that I didn’t NEED but WANTED for a recipe (salmon bowls). Stopped at 2 resale/vintage type shops - one is associated with an org I’m on the board for and is used books, craft items, org made art pieces (lots of pottery) and also sells local artist stuff. The other is a vintage home decor shop that I love. I bought a couple of puzzles at the first - only 300 pieces each - doable! And an Ina Garten cookbooks for my 2026 weekly “cook from a cookbook” challenge. At the vintage shop I bought 4 vintage Hall pristine augratin dishes that will be great for many things beyond augratin and woven tray with a mosaic lake/water scene on it - perfect for our sunporch near the pool and also it gave me hope for better weather!
Came home and it was a balmy 5 so took the dog for a mile walk on completely dry pavement which will NOT be dry tomorrow. Prepping some pork chops for dinner tonight. Ready to hibernate (besides shoveling) for the next two days (at least!)
Let’s see… I got up and had a cup of fancy coffee while surfing CC. Then, DH got up, so I made the bed, took my shower, and got dressed for the day. Had another cup of coffee while chatting with DH for a while about our son’s latest escapade. Then, I picked up my latest crochet project and worked on that for a while before making lunch. It’s a beautiful day, so maybe I’ll go for a walk before deciding what to make for dinner. After dinner, we’ll watch a couple of episodes of Yellowstone, and then I’ll get ready for bed and read for a couple of hours before falling asleep.
You guys are WAAAAAAAY busier than I typically am. ![]()
That sounds like a perfect day to me!
I have done as little as possible today. We are just a little north of the snow, though it is below zero real temps. I decided days and days ago to stay inside my apartment all day today.
I got up an hour later than normal, showered, dressed, made scrambled eggs and vegetarian sausage and watched GMA. I then watched a Hallmark movie. Then I sat on the couch and messed around online until noon, when DH decided to get up. He is recovering from knee replacement surgery and sleeps a lot the day after PT.
I did get up long enough to do a load of laundry, though DH did fold and put it away. Have watched a bunch of college basketball, both men’s and women’s. I will make dinner here in a few minutes.
That sounds pretty heavenly to me right now! I have a farm and wear a fitbit, so I know yesterday I walked 17,000 steps and today 15,000. Plus I have a nasty cold. So staying indoors, cozy, binge-watching a fun show sounds pretty perfect!
Oh, I forgot. It’s Saturday. Will enjoy an ice cold martini and chat with DH while he grills. Then on to the rest of the evening as described above.
(Didn’t want anyone to think I didn’t do ANYthing of interest today.
)
It’s Sunday morning here, snowing hard. I did laundry yesterday in case we lose power later; dishwasher running now in case we lose power later. Took my candles out of their hiding place so we’re ready in case we lose power later. Got my phone charged up in case we lose power later. Five books on my nightstand in case we lose power later.
But, truth be told, if we lose power the house is going to become really really cold, so we may wind up going to a neighbor’s with a generator.
It’s snowing here, and the roads look very dicey. I’m good with hanging around the house today.
