Got up, made my coffee. Actually, I just pressed the button, since I always set up my coffee the night before. It makes me feel in the morning like someone did something nice for me.
Ate my bowl of raisin bran, brushed my teeth, went to the dentist for what should be the last scan before I get my permanent bridge to nowhere. This has been an extremely long process – not to mention hugely expensive.
Contractor is coming over later to see the new leak in the family room.
I have a phone call with an old friend at 4:00 today. Her husband plays viola in a community orchestra and I had planned to go into NYC to see their concert this past Sunday, but it was just too damn cold. So I’ll have a catch-up on the phone instead.
My husband is hard of hearing and our bedroom is the farthest from the kitchen. I don’t worry about waking him
I am enjoying my Nespresso and making myself a cappuccino every morning. Yesterday I tried a cafe mocha which was good but I think I prefer the cappuccino
Went for a walk, it’s in the teens which is an improvement from last week and not terrible. I like getting outside and getting some vitamin D even if it’s cloudy out.
My husband called and scheduled a shipment for his medicine which we will believe when it arrives, cross your fingers that it comes Friday, the day they promised. The first of the year is like this every year, no surprise but still stressful.
I think I want to go out to lunch for soup and half a sandwich. Or it’s BOGO day at Wendy’s for chili so maybe that. I’ll ask the husband when he gets home from swimming.
Looking forward to the Olympics starting at the end of the week.
I have a regular coffee pot and a Nespresso. When it’s just me, I’ve been using my Nespresso. I also have a milk frother for fancy coffee. It feels like something I’m treating myself. I only drink one coffee, maybe 2 cups so the Nespresso works out for me.
I discussed my day too soon. Got potato and cheese soup with a salad. Hit the spot.
My daughter texted me that her husband tore his ACL skiing in Canada. He’s flying home tonight. We are going out there next week, should be interesting. Her husband was to be skiing, now I’m wondering when he’s going to have surgery.
My friend and her H and D and the D’s BF were all skiing and on the last day, my friend fell and wrecked up her right knee. She’s trying to decide whether she wants surgery and to what extent. She doesn’t like how wobbly the knee is with all the damage and lives in a 2-story home. She says at 68 she’s old and not too keen on surgery.
I hate to hear about all of the skiing injuries! H and I try hard not to hurt ourselves when we ski. We are both excellent skiers, but since we don’t want to get hurt we never ski anything that looks too crazy now. We like the long blue groomers with occasional black diamonds mixed in that are not moguls.
In addition to the usual work/workout stuff, I went to the (dreaded) dentist today. I like the new hygienist. She makes it as easy as possible for me, and tells me nice things about my teeth. Glad to have that done.
I’m still struggling with my Shutterfly book from our trip last Nov-Dec. I haven’t been near as motivated to make this one, but know I’ll be glad someday that I have it. I committed to doing one trip day/work day. It takes about 2 hours. And that’s just the pictures (600 and counting) and a terrible quick blurb. Once the photos are done, I’ll have ChatGPT help refine the text, and just clean it up in general.
But, a warning to anyone who uses Shutterfly. I opened up my project - I’m 2 days from the end of the trip… and Shutterfly updated their whole website and everything has changed! ARGH!!! So far I pretty much hate the changes. (Yes, I’m old. Change is bad.) I will grudgingly admit I like that you can add borders around the pictures like you can in Mixbook… And you can just pick a solid color for the background… But, they took away the both sides justified for the text. That’s what I love! And all of the aligning snapping features, and the spacing features. Those seem to all be gone. And everything is just slow… Bah, humbug!
Had the day off since one of my boarders was feeding. Successfully – I pray! – dealt with the IRS over my mother’s tax return, something I have been working diligently to straighten out since June. At 10:30 got the call that her horse was down. Went over to the barn and with the help of a veterinarian and 3 members of the Fire Dept we got her up. But it was touch and go.
Then had to rush to get my tripod dog to the vet for her adequan appt as she’s struggling with a painful shoulder joint.
And now I’m curled up in a chair, sipping Maple Ginger tea, wearing all my barn clothes because I am still not warmed up from spending hours outside.
Did all the usual stuff and cut dh’s hair before he went to work. Ds2 called and we got to talk for a bit. Short but info-filled convo, including news on his side gig and the gf and then talked about the Grammys. I adore this kid.
Looking forward to watching UT men’s bball tonight. This team is like a box of chocolates … you never know what you’re gonna get.
I have two nespressos each morning, usually Stockholm and/or Cape Town lungo or 4 double shots of whatever singles look good, always black like my heart haha. My machine has a steamer so if I want a latte I can do that. I cut out most dairy in 2024, so not as many as I used to have.
I get to take a shower & wash my hair today! The NP gave me the go-ahead yesterday during my follow up. The sponge baths and dry shampoo just don’t cut it. It will be another 7 weeks before a bath or swim.
We, well H, have decided to replace the dishwasher at our second home. He figures that it’s beyond repair. We just replaced the one at home, so he’s pretty sure which lesser model he wants over there.
Hoping he’ll want to take me on a trip to Costco so I can get my usual lunch stuff. #2D will be over this evening with the fruit and veggies I want.
Physical therapy, errands, and picking up my son for his weekly visit with us.
Then went into shock when we got the estimate from the mason to repair/rebuild our chimney - $16,000! Apparently, a lot of builders used crappy bricks in the ‘90s, who knew? We trust this mason - he learned the business from his father and has been doing this a long time. He’s very respected in the area. Now to figure out how to pay for it, since it’s really not something we can ignore.
Let’s see: walked and fed the dogs; Sabadog has managed to injure her back right paw and as a result left little faint marks of blood throughout the lower level. I think it’s her toenail on the foot that she drags. The ice isn’t helping at all. Spot cleaned the rugs. Went to the gym, came home and cleaned up, went to my pen/ink/watercolor class, then sent some emails and made some financial calls. Fed and walked the dogs. Ran to Petsmart and bought some dog booties appropriate for hiking in Colorado. Paid some bills. Good times.
Well, spent time this morning figuring out flights. Still waiting to hear from son before booking. Also made appointment to get car fixed after it was hit in parking lot in mid-December.
