What are your biggest problems with self-studying?

You attend classes regularly. What’s more, you even pay attention to lectures and are able to comprehend everything fully. Voila! You think you are one heck of a student!

You return home/hostel. You know you’ve got to study and revise all that was taught at college. You know you have to. You are determined.

And just when you are about to begin…

There’s a “phew” on the messenger and woah your best friend is online! You know you have to study but …it can wait!

Um, so chat begins.

Fun time. You keep telling yourself. “Eh, I’ll do it. I know I will.”

12 midnight. “Aww, hell. I forgot all about it!”

“Okay,no probs, I’ll do it now. Now means now.”

You grab your book. “Okay, here we go.” Flip through pages and “Ugh, too much man.” “Okay, I start…” And morpheus ultimately takes over.

“I’ll do it first thing tomorrow morning. I know I’ll do it. So what if I slacked off today. I know I’ll…”

Well, now, how many of us do it everyday?

Point: Most of us are equal in terms of intelligence. We are all (most of us) bright students, do well in class. Then why do some come out on top with a 4 GPA and others, who were equally good, are left behind with a mere 2.

Self-study, and how well you manage it, makes all the difference. Doesn’t it?

What are you biggest problems when it comes to self-study?

Here are mine:

Not able to concentrate (Though that’s not the case in class where I am fully attentive)

I feel sleepy!
3.Though I love my majors, just at the time of studying all the interest suddenly vanishes.

I know its all a result of faulty conditioning. I am not blaming it in my parents. I know all that laziness has got built over as a habit in all these years. I am working at it. Trying to break free of the habit. Beginning or lift-off takes the most effort and so, I am really pushing myself.

So, what about you? What are you doing about it?

Amazing. You managed to not once use the word “procrastination” or any derivative of it throughout the post.

^^^ Haha!!!

Goyu

but i think i made my point

^Lol…i was just about to question that.

mine are
1.procrastination
2. my inability to concentrate
3. procrastination

I used to be notorious for procrastination, and indeed, I have occasions when I fall into that old bad habit again. But now, I have a clear goal I’m shooting for, and it would just be stupid to deny what I want to get. I just sit myself down and go for it.

I’ve changed. And my procrastination habit along with it. It’s just about what your motivation is, I suppose.

And yes, this is a laspse right now. I’m not perfect.

Procrastination wins.
It’s hard to keep myself motiviated when I could be enjoying doing nothing, haha. Which is what I’d rather do than study most times. There’s a lot of self-discipline involved in getting me to study.
(which I actually should be doing right now… :-X)
I also feel like I have a short attention span when it comes to studying. Example: I’ll be trying to study, and then I’ll see something flash across tv or hear some random noise, and that’ll become more interesting than studying. I’m easily distracted :)

So, procrastination seems to be the no. 1 problem.

procrastination is an art…i am a master…only i can leave so much to sunday night that every sunday night i have to pull an allnighter…btw im in high school

(: No worries. I did that all the time in high school.

Actually, maybe you should worry. Cause I never really got good grades in the end.

i ALWAYS get sleepy when i start to study, even if i am untired.

strange, and annoying.

I’m happy to say that I’m no longer having a problem with this. I’m beating procrastination. Hopefully the motivation that’s making it possible won’t just fade or something.

Remember, when a rocket lifts-off it needs a lot of external force. Once that happens, its on its own. In the beginning, things are difficult. Once you are past the threshold level, things get much easier.

I don’t have a problem with studying. If I need to get something done, then I do it. Sometimes I’ll put it off, but I always end up getting it done before the next class or before it is due.

In high school I was the queen on procrastination, now not so much. It’s a nice feeling to get everything done and have tons of free time.

My trick is to convince myself that things are due before they are. Like if I have a paper due on Thursday, I tell myself that it has to be done by Sunday night. I write that on my schedule to do, I tell my roommates I have to do it, and then I do it. Each week, I go through and find out what I have to do for the week. I write it on my calendar when it’s actually due and then I schedule out each day with what I have to do that day. Even if my math homework is due on Wednesday, I normally have it scheduled to be completed on Monday afternoon. Planning ahead is the key.

You’ve also got to discipline yourself to stick to that schedule. Discipline is the key.

There’s a difference between procrastination and calculated procrastination (if that can exist, ha). I mentally plan out how long things will take and fit that into my schedule plus some time for unexpected things. Maybe you can call that delayed planning.

Wow, nice replies. I especially like Avonice’s trick thing.

I procrastinate because I’m terrified of producing anything that’s less than perfect, and I have no faith in my own ability to excel. I’m one of the top students in my class and I’m literally afraid of doing work. It’s pretty depressing.

Camelia, that’s rather strange. Hope you are able to get round this!
