What are your must haves when you travel?

I’m with geezermom all the way for the carry on. Also those little travel toothbrush things, cell phone and antibacterial wipes. I usually pack a change of underwear in my carry on, too, as I have been stranded overnight without luggage.

Noise cancellation earphones are amazing! Took me years before I would try them–now I won’t fly without them.

I wouldn’t want to fly without my bowling bag. No, I don’t bowl. But the bag is a wonderful square shape that fits really nicely underneath the seat in front of you and holds the earphones, magazines and iPad and snacks.

I also carry on all my chargers for the phone, ipad, ipod, digital camera (and all accessories) and if traveling internationally, the adapter. Don’t know what I would do if they lost my luggage and I lost my chargers. Also, I wear a security money pouch if traveling overseas. Going to look into those noise cancelling headphones for my next trip.

The headphones don’t completely cancel the noise–but that low roar of the plane turns into a more palatable higher pitched hum.

As for chargers, I saw a segment on TV that showed hotel desks with boxes of chargers left by former guests in wall sockets and never reclaimed. Chances are that they would have ones that you need and would happy to give them to you.

Oldfort, your friend probably reads the same “insider” articles that I do. That’s one item they don’t clean on a regular basis. And don’t put your luggage on the bed for fear that bedbugs (from the bed, mind you) will get into them! Yikes! I used to think traveling was glamorous.

Another item I always bring are tube socks for long flights. They really help my legs and feet from swelling. Or at least it feels that way!

Also, a backpack for my carry-on. Much more efficient than a purse or tote for my items (love all the little compartments to organize my “stuff”) - can be put on my back for travel through the airport.

Then, pack a small purse in my suitcase for when I reach my destination.

Credit card and $200 in cash.
Change of underwear.
Whatever drugs I need.

Everything else you can buy when you get there ;-)

This is called “train chocolate”. NEVER travel without train chocolate. I swear it has saved my life more then once.

But in my case I pack Ritter Sport bars.

Zensah calf compression sleeves and my Garmin running watch.

My inflatable travel pillow, no matter whether it is auto travel or air travel:

[The Container Store > Eagle Creek® Comfort Travel Pillow](http://www.containerstore.com/shop/travel/travelEssentials?productId=10027674&N=257)

Love packing yummy trail mix in a resealable bag, spare ziplocks, debit card, credit cards, all my meds (including a course of antibiotics & Tamiflu for just in case), spare prescriptions, pen and paper, pre-written address labels of anyone I plan to mail anything to, and a good companion (if I can find one who is interested). I also bring a few personal checks, “just in case,” and remember to call to find out what charges are if I use the phone out of country I figure out what to do about that.

S loves to travel with his Netbook.

I recently bought myself a rolling carry on which is wonderful for all the junk (chargers) I take onboard. Shoulder was giving out when hubby wasn’t around to do the heavy lifting. A friend of mine packs her own plastic cups in her suitcase so that she won’t have to use the glass ones (that apparently get rinsed out with industrial cleaners) in the hotel room. I have been fortunate enough to find plastic cups in the hotel rooms I’ve stayed at so far.

Corkscrew & Bottle opener!

I thought one could only get a series of antibiotics by prescription from a doctor (and only if you needed them)??

I’m embarrassed to admit I really wouldn’t know what drugs to buy from CVS or Walgreens for travelling. The only thing I buy in that department and bring with me is Advil. I used to catch colds overseas, years ago but haven’t in the past ten years. Keeping hands away from your eyes, nose, mouth area did the trick (I read). I make sure never to rub my eyes while on an airplane.

I’m old-school and always carry a handbag, no cell, or I-anything.
In that handbag I carry ziplok bags with: extra contact lens stuff, antibacterial wipes,
package of kleenex, Lip Medex by Blistex, green tea bags, a small notebook with my
itinerary, hotel info, dinner res. etc.

Oh, one other important thing:
I always bring a Visa or MasterCard if going overseas as Amex is not
accepted everywhere. As it’s rarely used, I let them know where I’ll be and for
how long.

I also carry on a small shopping bag with a book. Next week I’m bringing Ken Follett’s
new one and I always stop and pick up a People magazine for take-off (I’m a nervous
flyer).

Also isn’t a blackberry a cell phone? Why would you bring a blackberry and a personal cell phone Oldfort?

My DH always carries two phones - his business-issued blackberry for business related calls and emails and his personal cell phone for personal use.

I pack those wax earplugs that I use for swimming. They aren’t as nice as the noise cancellation earphones, but they do cancel out a lot of the engine roar. Plus, they take up considerably less space. And I don’t worry if I lose them - they are inexpensive to replace.

My collapsable foot rest for overseas flights, a photo copy of my passport and most recently I have added my own light weight travel blanket. (lately the ones on Delta have been disgusting or non existent)

Passport, travel documents, driver’s license, prescriptions, and a credit card. I figure anything I forget I can get at a store.

My prescription drugs, driver’s license, cell phone, and credit card. Nothing else really matters (but I only travel within the U.S.).

How about toilet paper ?Ever since I went to China, I always carry tissues.Another essential: a cloth washcloth, wet, in a ziploc bag to refresh my face on a long flight- way better than a chemical wipe ! String cheese can keep for several days, if it is cool. I guess I carry alot of stuff.I went to China for 2 weeks with only a 22"carry on bag ! Don’t forget a sedative to assist sleep on long haul flights.
