Eyemamom,I love your post. “Learn how to be me” - that is awesome and a great goal - I think you will get there!

^^^^ One year I made my resolution “keeping the kitchen island free of clutter” and I made it work. Now it’s second nature. Good luck!

I’m going to finally design the kitchen addition I knew we needed when we bought this house 14 years ago. Whether we can afford it, remains to be seen, but at least I’ll have gotten started!

I know this sounds simple, but I’m hoping to waste less food/eat what we buy. We throw out a ridiculous amount of food, and I feel bad about this for multiple reasons. I’m working on getting rid of stuff, slowly but surely, but I’m not yet ready to commit to a bag limit. (I did a “five things a day” kind of thing for some time, but stopped at some point). I also need to figure out my third life (empty nest starting next fall), but that’s for another post.

Niquii’s 2014 New Year’s Resolutions:

1. Get happy and healthy!
I’ve been battling addiction and depression this past year. I’ve relapsed more times than I’d like to admit. It’s essentially a snowball in my life that has cause great problems, emotionally and socially. So next year (tomorrow…oh goodness), I WILL start clean. I need to do this for my health. I know I can’t keep doing this for much longer before I experience long-time effects. 2014 WILL be the year.

2. Commit to a healthy lifestyle.
I have already made a detailed daily schedule to combat my ADD-like symptoms. The next part is to eat healthy and exercise regularly. If I stick to it, I will be a completely different person by the end of 2014. And I look forward to that!

3. Branch out!
College has taught a bunch just from the semester I’ve been there. The main thing that it’s taught me is that I need to branch out socially.

4. Get serious.
The next two semesters no joke. The course loads. Their timing. Their importance. I need to be on my A game if I want to be able to study abroad (and receive the funds to do so…) next Spring.

5. Get a new phone.
You can’t keep living like this, Niquii. Get a new phone.

Sure, I could add little things, but I know I wouldn’t keep up with them after a week. These are the things I need to do. In order to live an enriched life, these are necessary.

One of my favorite things to do at our town’s First Night is to read the resolutions that everyone writes and hangs on a large sculpture. (There is also an opportunity to write last year’s resolutions on a wooden tongue depressor and throw them into a fire.) Mine was to use my bike more for errands, even when it’s cold out or I think I am in a hurry. Two others are to get back in the habit of giving blood and to finally get all the way through Jon Kabat Zinn’s meditation training.

I think this will finally be the year we take down the wall between the kitchen and family room. Mathmom, I wish you were here to help.

We should revive this thread once a month to see how we’re doing.

1) Declutter my master bedroom, which is my big challenge as it holds the piles of clutter I move from other spots when we have company. Too often, the piles remain long after the company has left.

2) Submit a story I wrote for publication (creative non-fiction).

3) Continue to make my health and fitness a priority.

Choose to be happy over being right…Accept that today should not be mortgaged for a future day of happiness…Remember how truly fortunate I am, even when things are hitting the fan :-)

Oh, and put myself at the front of the line on a more regular basis.

A friend of mine pointed out to me, about 8 months ago, that I spent an enormous amount of time and energy obsessing about losing weight. At this point, I’ve lost half the weight I want to lose. My resolution for this year is to get my life back: lose the weight, change my eating patterns, stop obsessing.

Related to this is a nine-week resolution to complete the Couch-to-5K program ([The Couch-to-5K ® Running Plan | C25K Mobile App](http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml)).

Finally, I have a competitive goal related to my personal hobby of dog agility.

A few years ago I decided to start going to the Y and working out, and I’m still doing that regularly. I decided to lose weight, and I did that, although it’s a constant struggle, and I still need to lose about 15 lbs.

So this year, I’m starting on the inside. I can’t even begin to understand the word “forgive”, but that’s for another thread. So this year, I’m going to try to be less judgmental. Much less. And to think before I speak. Lofty goals for me. I’m gonna try.

Rejoin my book club as an active member

Take care of minimizing all our bills–cell phone, cable, etc.

De-clutter like crazy (I’m joining the one bag per week club here!)

^ I’m going with #3 as well. One bag or item a week from my basement is my goal. Just got rid of three old TV sets yesterday. Feels good!

Ditto to JEM, adding on that I need to declutter garage as well as piles in bedroom.

also, start a blog connected to my group’s website.

Make a concerted effort to call the golden friends that have drifted away.

Plan a trip.

dmd77, my D1 did the couch-to-5K program last year and it worked! She ran a few races over the summer, so didn’t just stop at one.

My resolution this year is to sell my house and move. Empty nest now, and it is far too big and too much work for me. I know that if I don’t push myself, it would be easier to just stay (moving is SO MUCH WORK, and I don’t have a clear picture yet of what I am going to move to – general location is known, but house? condo? apartment? buy? rent? TBD…). But I know that a shorter commute, possibly closer neighbors, and a smaller place would all be good for me. I spent the last week making daily trips to Goodwill (I think I dropped of the 40 bags of Lent in only 5 days!). I just need to keep this momentum through the summer, hoping to put it on the market when D2 goes back to college in the fall.

My New Year’s Resolution is 1080p

Trying to find positive things amongst all the negativity that surrounds us as Americans…little things mean a lot

I need to de-clutter. My home never got cleared out when we bought from my mom 21 years ago. Add in the in-laws downsizing and #1D moving back home after graduating college and it’s only gotten worse. While I’ve been off for the holidays I’ve tried to do one small thing a day, and this morning took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill. The plan is to put one excess thing a day into a box for donation or the trash can for disposal.

Weight loss prior to niece’s wedding would be nice. I’d love to be one of those people who drop a ton as soon as they start running. Maybe this will be my year, lol.

1) Continue working on better health and fitness – 20-25 lbs to go.
2) Work on ME.
3) Let go of the things I can’t control – esp. as they relate to S2.
4) Joining the bag-a-week club.

To morrismm (post #18): I have a space heater that’s in the basement and rarely used. I should get rid of it. Would you like it?

1) Drink less pop
2) Eat better in general
3) Get back to working out (cliche, I know, but I was doing so well until my surgery!)

Here’s to a happy and healthy year to all!
