Excellent news!

Maskholes are not welcome.

Excellent! My kid is flying here on Sept 21…and I was hoping this would be the case.

I will be so angry if this trip doesn’t happen…we haven’t seen this kid since Christmas 2019.

D is maid of honor in friends wedding next weekend and her sister’s 3 weeks later. So bunch of flying. Just praying the flights are on time and she stays healthy.

I had no doubt the transportation mask rule would be extended. It applies to school buses too, even in districts without mask rules.

Now, if we can just do like Canada and require vaccines for domestic flights…

I joke that all we need to do to get the entire country vaccinated is to require vaccination for admission to Disney World, NASCAR, and SEC football.

From what I’ve seen in my district, there are no plans to require anyone to wear a mask on school buses - or anywhere else in the school. We specifically got an email stating that mask wearing is optional for all students and staff (includes teachers) and no one is allowed to bully or pressure anyone into putting one on or taking one off. If we see a problem we’re to send it to the office. (Kids belittling kids for one direction or the other and it doesn’t stop with our telling them to knock it off.)

The different school districts in my metro area have had demonstrations about mask wearing. One district decided no masks required (very wealthy district, so this was surprising) but said they would enforce the mask wearing on the school buses. Most of the other districts have mask mandates, at least for the younger kids who can’t be vaccinated.

When I was on vacation in SC, even the little trolleys to the beach required masks.

Our recent cross country trip covering quite a few states showed us just how different the US “majority” is anywhere.

So many (everywhere) consider “Americans” as one group. Not even close. Not even for “majorities” on different topics - like masking.

If I were to go to school when it starts it would surprise me to see anyone masked TBH. The highest I’d range to in my guess would be 5% and those would probably be higher risk staff.

I’m glad that folks can legitimately get boosters w/o lying about whether they have an autoimmune deficiency. I will be due in Oct and be ready to get my booster then. Until then, I guess we continue to be hermits as much as possible.

Here’s an article on NYT today which explains the reason why we are not flying overseas anytime soon even though we did go to a resort to celebrate a milestone birthday(resort purposely only limited to 30% occupancy and charged $$)and remained there most of the time in Cabo in March.

My mother will also get hers in Oct and I think that timing is perfect because then it will take her through the winter (assuming the boosters lasts 8-12 months).

This quote from the article definitely gives me pause.

My sister had Covid three times, so there’s always a chance I could get it again,” she added.

Wow!

I sent a text to my lung doc who doesn’t want me flying until he approved due my junk lungs and covid and it’s variants.

Here’s our dilemma- We have reservations for a house in Pensacola, Fl ( our delayed vacation from 2020). We are all vaccinated except our eleven year old grandson. We are driving, staying in an airbnb, and we plan to do take out or cook. We have no plans except using the pool and walking across the highway to the beach and bike riding. We are suppose to go at the end of September. I’m not so worried about exposure but more about if something else happens and one of us has to go to a hospital. I wish I had a crystal ball.

Hospitals are pretty safe places! (should that occasion arise) Unless Florida is different most hospitals continue with mandated masking for ALL in all areas. Probably safer than going to the grocery store.

Your plan sounds about as safe as you can be. Our family is pretty cautious - we would 100% do what you have planned.

I know two people who got COVID after being in a hospital ER. Both hadn’t been fully vaccinated yet and both were in city ERs (there were homeless people lying next to me in the ER - to quote one friend).

Generally, hospitals and medical facilities are safe as they are following protocol.

Hospitals are only safe if they have room to treat you as needed. In Florida, that isn’t the case.

American Airlines made it very easy to cancel my flight. The miles went back in and the taxes paid were credited back to the credit card. This was all done on the website, no need to be hours on the phone (like at the beginning of the pandemic).

I’d still go. School will be back in session by the end of Sept so fewer people in the area.
