What are your thoughts on Nationalism?

Choco, are you pro-Rand?

@fairy

All Rand is blatant, Foutainhead isn’t politically blantant but still…

^She is never accused of subtlety. Usually she is accused of “beating it over your head with a sledgehammer.”

Still, I liked Anthem. I read it first in 8th grade. And again, about 6 months ago.

I don’t know much about Ezra Pound…Um try someone else?

I’m reading Crime and Punishment and Catch-22 right now.

Sorry, my bad.

Am I pro-Rand? No.

But I’m not anti-Rand either…(as in OMG I HATE HER WITH SUCH PASSION!)

There are some ideas of hers I agree with to an extent, others not so much.

But I don’t like when people dismiss her as “stupid.”

I did a HUGE project on her, so yea…if you ask something more specifically, I can answer.

^^^ Two of my favourite books ever I hope you enjoy them ;)

Regarding Rand: I likes the Foutainhead… A lot… But I thought Atlas Shrugged was jejune at best.

Right now I’m liking Catch-22 a lot more. It’s HILARIOUS. I mean, obviously it’s only value isn’t comedy, but it is so funny. I have LOL-ed. And I love Heller’s style.

Crime and Punishment…hate/love relationship. Some parts I really like, then other parts UGH I just can’t wait to finish. I’m at Part Three for Crime, and halfway mark for Catch-22.

I read crime and punishment a long time ago, but the reason he killed the pawn shop woman was never very deeply understood

Everyone should read a bunch of poetry so we can discuss literature

You can also read epic poetry (Paradise Lost, Orlando Furioso, The

Fountainhead is better, I agree. Though Howard Roark himself is sort of…one-dimension/flat. Dagny seem a bit more layered.

Thanks for teaching me the word “jejune.”

And…Fiction>Poetry.

Though, I don’t really know much poetry…

^^^ Catch-22 is hilarious, Heller is only one of two writers who I actually LOL at (the other being Hunter Thompson).

Roark was interesting but One-dimensional, Dominique and Keating were actually good characters though.

Yeah, I like the latter two as well. Gail was good, too.

I also laugh at Kurt Vonnegut.

^ Heard the name don’t know anything by him… Any recommendations?

Cat’s Cradle.

I have yet to read it, but my 8th grade history teacher sang many praises.

Player Piano.

Slaughterhouse-Five (his most famous?)

Cat’s Cradle (like fairy said).

Those are the three I’ve read. Love them all.

^ Right, I’ll definately get those then. Thanks :)

I didn’t find Slaughterhouse-Five that funny or meaningful =/ I read a quarter of Anthem and thought it was okay.

Slaughterhouse-Five wasn’t funny, but Cat’s Cradle and Player Piano was. However, I found Slaughterhouse-Five to be enjoyable and meaningful and a very fluid read.

Just finish Anthem. It’s short. Well, maybe it’s just me, but I hate not finishing books.

lolololololol read Galapagos. Weirdest thing I’ve ever read

Cat’s Cradle was pretty weird, but in a good way.

yeah. Galapagos was funny, but just very strange, almost like Kafka or Gogol
