I’m applying to penn state this fall, and I was wondering what other big ten I should apply to.
Which ones can you afford?
My parents can afford penn state. And I’m a transfer student.
IU and Northwestern.
What about rugters and Michigan state?
Is Rutger’s in the Big 10? Just kidding but Rutgers, Maryland, and Penn State are not really in the Big 10. They are little east pretenders.
Northwestern University, the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and the University of Wisconsin-Madison all have top 10 Chemistry departments.

Northwestern has recently pulled off some significant wins in faculty recruiting with hires such as John Rogers and Will Dichtel (arguably the top young rising star in chemistry at the moment). John Rogers had an offer at Stanford, and chose Northwestern instead.
NU, UIUC, Umich and Wisc have the highest rated undergrad Chem departments in the B1G.
If your parents can afford Penn State and you’re instate, can they afford the OOS rates at other Big 10 schools? If not, why apply?
Chemistry is a staple at universities. They’re all going to have very good programs.
Wait…your GPA was a 2.88 after fall semester. What is it now?
What is your goal with a Chem degree? I don’t know much about Chem grad school admissions, but I would think you’d need a much higher GPA.
Note: I believe that was a semester GPA, not cumulative, though some of the posts where it was mentioned seem to imply otherwise.
My GPA is 2.88 cumulative. my goal with the chemistry degree is to do research in the area of atmospheric science, I’m going for chemistry and meteorology. I can minor or major in chemistry.
My mistake – I thought on the one thread that you had quoted a higher number as cumulative.
You’re GPA is quite lower than I thought, no offense. Is it because of PE because I see that in another thread it says you failed it? I think most colleges don’t count PE into GPA. If they do then they won’t really care or look at it and ignore it.
I passed PE with an A…
