I am re-reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for probably the tenth or so time. It always makes me stop and look at the world a little differently. Anyone else have a book that’s been re-read many times?

When I was in high school I reread The Lord of the Rings about a half dozen times. The only book(s) I can recall rereading in recent years was the Master and Commander series, but since there are 20 books in that series I reread them only once each. There are many books that I sometimes pull out and reread favorite scenes or passages.

To Kill a Mockingbird and Kristin Lavransdatter. They couldn’t be more different from one another, but I love them both.

The Great Gatsby

I read The Lord of the Rings twenty times over twenty years, but the twentieth time I realized it wasn’t actually the best book in the world after all. I did reread them when the movies came out though. I reread a lot of old favorites. Among my favorite books to read again: Jane Austen, Dorothy Sayers, Georgette Heyer (though it’s been a looong time) and Lois McMasters Bujold’s Vorkosigan books. I read the Narnia books a lot as a kid, but I find them pretty hard to take now. I can’t get past the sexism, the racism and the religion.

Every time a new Harry Potter book came out, I would start the series over and read all books to be up to date and story fresh in my mind for reading each new book. Now I start out my summers re-reading the entire series. I like to have them fresh in my memory to compare to each movie as it is released, also. We like to play the game “Find all the differences you can between book and movie”.

I am also rereading David McCullough’s John Adams. Love that book and gives me so much appreciation for this country and its founding fathers and all they sacrificed for it. I agree with To Kill A Mockingbird, my favorite. It’s been since high school that I read The Great Gatsby, need to check that out and reread.

mathmom, a couple years ago I was very sick for most of the winter and pretty much unable to get out of bed. My oldest sister sent me two hugh boxes with all of the Georgette Heyer books. It was the greatest gift of all time: old friends who didn’t demand much of me, but were there to comfort me. I also reread Austen, Sayers, and Mary Laswell. A book from my childhood that I have read probably forty times in my life is “How to be Topp” by Geoffrey Willians. How to survive a British boys school, strangely helpful in getting through life. (all the french you really need know “av-ez vo0 ach-et-ay le gin?”)

Catcher in the Rye. Read it a few times when I was (much) younger; then again when D read it in high school.

I do not like to reread books, but my daughter is the queen of rereading! Like AZKMom she reads each Harry Potter before a new one comes out. She always has a book on her night table that she has read and is rereading.

If I were to read a book again, I think it would be To Kill a Mockingbird; still love the story!

AZKmom, I’m readig John Adams for the 2nd time, too. After a couple of trips to Philly and DC last year, I knew I’d appreciate the details more the second time around.

I read most books I own at least twice+

Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner. I don’t usually reread books. This one is full of wisdom and the writing is spectacular.

Pride and Prejudice - never get tired of it!

I re-read a lot. I remember watching one of those ‘home design’ shows where they were giving the home-owner a hard time about all the books she owned. “You’re never going to re-read any of them, are you?” the host said, like that was some alien concept to read a book more than once.

I read through once for the story, once for the characters, and maybe another time or two just 'cause I like the way the author handles words.

If you haven’t read Lois Bujold McMasters, start tomorrow! She’s outstanding. I’ve re-read Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls bunches! Just grand epic fantasies.

Lord of the Rings (a lot from college to 20s)
On the Road by Kerouac-at least a dozen times
Lots of Kurt Vonnegut-now my S is reading them!

I tend not to reread books usually. But I know my younger daughter read a certain book over many times in her teens…Summer Sisters by Judy Blume.

What book have I re-read many times? I constantly find myself dusting off my March’s. :D

When I was young, I was “digging” Jules Vern and Asimov… I do not usually re-read books now.

Me too, with Pride and Prejudice and Great Gatsby! I read them both every 10 years or so. (wow, does that make me feel old.)

Isn’t this the truth! I do enjoy reading Sherlock Holmes short stories and The Hobbit.

“The Sun Also Rises” and “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “To Kill a Mockingbird”

I adore re-reading Dickens but most of his works take forever to get through once, let alone many times!!
