In college I plan on majoring in Biology to pursue my goal of becoming a dermatologist. I want to be a dermatologist, because since I was a baby I have been suffering from eczema. I grew up wondering why I was different from everyone. I always felt bad for myself, but one day in our freshman AVID class we had to do a project about our future. I didn’t know what I wanted to be. I started “googling” random careers then I stumbled upon “dermatologist.” At the time I didn’t know what a dermatologist was so I read on and learned that this was what I wanted to be. I figured It was the career for me, because ever since I could talk I always told people I wanted to be a doctor and having eczema inspired me to help others suffering from other skin diseases. I then put those two factors together and since then becoming a dermatologist is what I aspire to be.

I’m an in-state student by the way! :)

Are you looking for Publics or Privates? Small/Large/Rural/Urban?? How much can you and your parents afford?? EFC?

  1. For the UC/CSU system, you need to calculate your UC/CSU gpa, see link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
    Based on your posting, your GPA and SAT are very low for the UC’s but you might have an outside chance at UC Merced.
    Cal States, I would suggest the following; Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, San Bernandino, San Marcos, Stanislaus, East Bay, Sac State
    For Privates: Whitter, Azusa Pacific, La Verne, Redlands
    I would plug your STATS into the SuperMatch feature on this website and see what possiblities you get.

In addition to the list above, add Sonoma - a really nice campus. With some improvement in your SAT Chico and CP Pomona maybe CSULB are probably within reach.
Good luck.

CSULB is impacted and your grades are not competitive.
I would say San Marcos, Bakersfield, Dominguez Hills, Channel Islands, and the previously listed privates.

CSUs in Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Monterey Bay, and Stanislaus are not impacted, so you will be admitted at the CSU minimum (competion of a-g courses, and (for in-state students) meeting this chart: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU; ).

Others have varying levels of impaction, so admission is not certain. See the following:
http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impactioninfo.shtml</a>
http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impaction-campus-info.shtml</a>
Admission is based on the eligibility index calculated here:
<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

You do not have to major in biology to do pre-med, although you need to take the pre-med courses alongside any major to apply to medical school.

I think you have a good chance at a lot of Cal States and also UC Riverside, and Merced. You should also consider Mount St. Mary’s and Chapman.

Just a precaution, Dermatology is one of the most difficult fields to get into for medical school. You need to be one of the top students in your college because it is a very competitive field.

Make sure to take your SAT again because it can improve your chances to getting into a college.
