What cali colleges should I look into?

<p>Hi :slight_smile:
I am a white male, living in los angeles, and want to attend an in state school. im currently a junior and want to major in political science. </p>

<p>GPA
W - 3.3
UW - 3.5</p>

<p>Volunteer</p>

<p>500 service hours from LAUSD All City Band
40 hours from AFJROTC
60 hours from SPHS marching band
Volunteer projects in the Black Forest in Germany this summer</p>

<p>Leadership</p>

<p>Section leader in SPHS band next year
Founder/ President of SPHS Philosophy Club
Founder/ President of SPHS Political Activism Club
Vice President of SPHS Physics Club
A high chance of front rank, right guide (one of the highest student marching positions) in LAUSD All City Band next year</p>

<p>I’ve only taken 2 APs so far, thats all my school will allow me to take.</p>

<p>Im taking the ACT this june, and feel confident about the test, if that helps.</p>

<p>I have a real passion for politics and philosophy, which is actually why my GPA is so low. throughout high school, ive spent my time reading chomsky or nietzsche or bakunin instead of doing my spanish 2 or math analysis homework. so many courses seemed so irrelevant to me as i had to take them, but I see that was a mistake now.
On top of that, before high school, i had a decent life, but freshman year my parents were fighting and divorced, my grandma slowly died over a year with lung cancer, my sister ran away, and i had to live with my aunt (and still do). my family income is also around 100k, but since we live in 2 apartments with steep rent, with 2 cars to make payments on, and hella groceries because of all the people in my house, we dont have a whole lot of money. </p>

<p>oh, and im taking 5 APs next year. ap gov, ap bio, ap calc (bc, maybe), ap art history, and ap lit (along with adv. band and international relations), if that helps :slight_smile: thanks again</p>

<p>Do you want a public school?</p>

<p>It’s hard to assess without SAT/ACT scores.</p>

<p>So far, with your GPA, the only UC schools would be maybe Merced and Riverside. </p>

<p>For CSUs, you’d probably get into most of them; maybe not CalPoly SLO or SDSU, but the rest are possibilities. CSUs don’t care about your activities; they just ask for GPA (and it’s a special CSU-calculated GPA) and test scores. No essay.</p>

<p>Do you need to commute from home? Can you go away to school? Do you want a city, suburban or rural environment?</p>

<p>Do you want a school with a marching band?</p>

<p>Preferably public, yes. i can go away. city environment, and yes - a marching band would be nice.</p>

<p>actually, scratch that. if youre trying to say that i can only get into the two worst UCs, i dont think I want to go to school in california. thanks anyway.</p>

<p>If you want to play in a college marching band, I might recommend SJSU or CSU Fresno. I have a bias towards SJSU though because I played in that band for a couple of seasons. You could try for USC, in hopes that some of your EC activities could make you a competitive candidate, but don’t hold your breath.</p>
