<p>I’m a rising senior and just starting to think about where I want to go to school, and I’m the first in my family to do so, so anything you can contribute to guiding me what kind of schools to apply to go I’d be happy to listen to. I’m fully aware my scores are not mind-blowing or going to take me to Harvard, but yeah. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!</p>

<p>What are your financial limits?
If you have funding limits, build your list from the bottom up by looking at schools with large merit. For example, Alabama offers full tuition for SAT CR/M of 1400 and 3.5 GPA.</p>

<p>My son needs FA. He is looking at large Us like Bama that have honors colleges; LACs in the range of 50-100 on the US News reports; a handful of highly ranked schools that have great FA; 1 “perfect” school for fit without considering the FA; a handful of schools rated lower than 100 or regional but that have enough breadth of courses that he would not “outgrow” it in 4 years.</p>
<p>Most schools listed in the top 25 on the US News list have acceptance rates low enough that no student should consider it a Match. </p>
<p>The “1st in family” can be a boost at some schools.</p>
<p>@Longhaul, I love writing so I know I want to do something along the lines of that in the future. As for college majors, I’m not too sure yet. </p>
<p>@barrk, yeah I am from California. I like Santa Clara and USC out of those you named. Also, a parent works at USC and I am eligible for free tuition at both of these schools.</p>
