What Came First? Egg Or The Chicks?

anyways,

I’m just curious, what is e1’s hook?

mine may be my recommendations/ strong regional tennis rankings

i think my essay, but my counselor played up my well-roundedness in my rec with academics, v.lacrosse in a state that didnt have club before, level 10 piano, trilingual, and other boring technical stuff like that, which they MIGHT like. i dunno. my history teacher also wrote i was unique and not a follower of the crowd, very independent, blah blah blah, so i think my recs are a strong part too.

nice,
i play piano too! but not level 10 lol, hardest i can play is La Campanella (2 pages of it…) by Liszt. its tough, as you may know

Essays hands down. They show how I think and how much I know about and fit into the culture at UChicago. They’re nifty. That, and I have research, all-state for both an academic and an athletic extracurricular, a few national awards… so we’ll see.

I LOVE LA CAMPANELLA! its crazy cause when you hear it on CD or something it sounds like more than one instrument cause of all the crazy things you have to do with your hands to make separate distinct voices. my hands aren’t big enough to play that with ease, though.

haha, yea u need big hands for those 2 octave jumps! its amazing… liszt is my hero! i actually mentioned him on my chicago essay, saying he was “mysteriously expressive” and if haydn, mozart, chopin and schubert were to inseminate, miraculously somehow, each other and make a baby, liszt’ll be the one.
He’s a cool kid.

Schubert’s the real pimp tho (literally, read his biography haha)

hook? excuse me?

I was a person. I was interested in attending the U of C. I did pretty well in school and I had a few things that I did for fun. That was my hook. It was also, evidently, enough to get me in.

I really don’t like when people consider themselves in the terms laid out by college admissions.

Yeah for real.

Um also, how can you say how much you know about and fit into the UChicago culture if you…don’t go to school here. It’s really kind hard to really know about the school’s culture and whether you fit in here until you actually come here for school…not just for prospie stuff. I mean, you get a good idea from prospie stuff…but it’s not really the real deal.

@unalove… what did alexander the great do when he was summoned in front of the great king of greater-mesopotanian region and was asked to list out his qualifications and strenghts?

P.S. dont bother researching it, just answer it if ya know it

@Cosmos- conceeded. I have friends, there, though, I’ve visited a lot… I mean, I’ve gotten the best possible feel for campus I could without actually being a student. I guess my essays were more things that I’ve come to love about UChicago. It takes place in the Divinity Coffee Shop, ends with Scav Hunt, has other things in between. I don’t really know how to put it best. I guess the better way to put it than I phrased it originally is that I love the tiny bit of the culture I’ve experienced. Does that make sense? I didn’t mean the original post to sound cocky or anything, though upon reading it now I recognize that it really was.

^ducktape: by any chance, did you used to post on Princeton Review’s discussion board?

@ducktape - I’m sure your essays are fine.
Have you visited classes yet?

Not yet- doing so if I’m accepted, though.

@MBP, yes I did. I remember you, too (MostBoredestPerson, right? haha). Do you still drop by there? I haven’t been on those forums in at least a few years.

yeah. I mostly just talk to wtw and Mando, but I give advice when I can. I go there maybe once a week at most. It seems so empty compared to here!
you should tell wtw how you’re doing. he’d appreciate it. :)

I should drop by. Does anyone even use that anymore? I remember there were times when it’d just be you, wtw, and mando completely taking up a thread discussing something way off topic. I’ll do it next time I get a chance. Heck, why not right now.

EDIT: Wow, I don’t think I remember my login…

haha. we just did that to a thread! i always feel bad to the OP who has their question basically ignored after the first few comments, yet it is used for like another 3 pages of just bantar. good times… good times
honestly, though, this is the first time in probably 6 months that we’ve taken a thread. And this one is actually somewhat college related.

edit: the server is really so slow that not many people use it. there are maybe 5 comments a day.
And nobody sticks around like they used to (at least i don’t notice). I mean, it seems like you, ar fa be, jdah, …the friend of yours that went to the same high school… i forget their username, snappy the crab, Jesuisanfaux, etc. stayed around forever.
that was my freshman year… haha, wow.

I had a friend at my high school? Let me rephrase that- I had a friend on PR that went to my high school? Hmm… I really don’t recall.

Wow, that was ages ago. I got on, by the way. What year are you now? Junior?

And we’re now totally hijacking this thread.

yeah. I thought it was ironic that we were talking about how wtw, mando, and I used to steal threads… yet that was exactly what we were starting to do. he he

yeah, i’m a junior now. I’ve since transfered out of my crappy high school… and it’s really made me realize how bad my old high school was.
I think it’s cool that both of us have been attracted to UChi. Great minds think alike :)

oh… and i think the person’s username was something with penquin… i might be thinking of somebody else (i’ve slept a couple of times since then)

Penguin rings a bell, though I really don’t remember there being anyone from my school. I dunno.

I’m glad you transferred… and btw, I posted on the thread that you and wtw were beginning to hijack, so let’s hop on over there and let CC go on in peace. :)

by hook, i took it as “strongest part of your application”
