I think you have a very good chance of getting in. Just raise the reading score to above 600. All your other SAT scores are good, and your APs will help significantly. Cal and LA are also very possible (if that SAT score is increased). You would probably fall in around the top 50% of LA, Cal admits while in the top 30-25% for SD.

ECs and GPA are also good.

thank you. what were your stats when u got into ucsd?

1350 old SAT: 710M, 640 V

SAT II: 790 WH, 700W, 760 Math IIc,
I only had 1 AP for app. so WH 5, but took four in senior year.

GPA: 3.98 UC , not sure unweighted

EC: 200 hours comm. service, hospital volunteer.

single parent

....if you're applying CE (impacted), you should take either the chem or physics SAT II and score above 700.

Also, search around the recent threads because you might find a link to the ucsd admissions point system. I think there's a cutoff of 7500 pts.

wow. thats very impressive. should i really take physics sat 2?? because i doubt i'll score higher than my other 2 sats. is CS also an impacted major???

yes, CS is impacted:

http://admissions.ucsd.edu/dev2/info/um.html
under "IMPACTED MAJORS & PRE-MAJORS // Freshman Applicants:"

so does that mean i have a harder to chance of getting in? what if i just apply as undeclared engineering?? just curious but how am i in the top 75 % of applicants at sd compared to ur stats?

yes, because the dept. will receive more apps than slots. I think if you were undeclared engin. but still wanted into an impacted maj, you'd have to take the preq. courses, have a high gpa, then petition the department sometime in second year of college.

The average applicant score for SD was 1180 (1770) or so. You'd be in the top 70-75% of admits if you had around 2000-2050 based on last year's results (at 25% the score was 1360~2040). But your good SAT II scores will help significantly.

thanks....do i still HAVE to take sat2 physics.?

no, you can take either the chemistry or physics sat2. It is required for all engineering majors.

i had no clue about that. so i should take physics in december (taking ap physics right now, chem was 2 years ago , so i have forgotten all about it) and even if i do bad i should still send it? sorry if i keep asking questions...

b u m p

I'd recommend taking a few practice tests ,if you have time, and decide on which one you'd do better. The December administration is the last one accepted by the UCs.

Physics might be harder because you haven't finished the course. Depending on how well you did in your chemistry class, your chances would be better because you actually finished the class and would have a stronger impression.

yeah but i took reg physics last year and this year i am taking ap physics. alright thanks.
