Hi, I am going to be a senior this fall and by the end of my senior year my GPA will be a 3.11 with and sat of 2000 and an ACT of 27. i will have finished 5 classes at the local college and 1 AP class at my school. I Will have 6 extracurriculars by this time. I know my grades are not very good but that was because of personal issues my first two years of high school. I really picked up the slack and am trying really hard to make up for it. What else can I do to help myself get into the college I would like, which is NYU.

Sounds like you have really worked hard and shown a great work ethic with challenging classes. The rigor of your curriculum sounds high and your ECs will matter too. I’d say that NYU is one of those schools that gives a lot of weight to demonstrated interest so try to visit or attend local meetings with a rep from admissions. Try to make your essay responses on the supplement as specific to NYU as you can. Keep working hard- they will ask for first semester grades. Learn as much as you can their LSP- it sounds like they have offered that to a lot of candidates they felt might not be completely ready for their first choice, but you can then transfer into your specific college choice third year and also send the first year in a global studies locale ( except for Tisch and I’m not sure if there are any other exceptions). Also, you could very well be admitted to your college of choice at NYU, but not receive financial aid other than hefty loans. NYU’s aid seems like it may be much more generous with high stats, so also evaluate whether you can really afford it without taking on a lot of debt. It is ridiculously expensive and unless you are applying to one of the programs that are truly very different from the experiences you could have at a number of other schools ( such as Tisch, Stern, and perhaps the nursing program) you may want to really evaluate if it’s worth the debt. It is a fantastic school- but crazy expensive. Keep up your great work and go for what you want!
