What Can My Dumb Friend Do?! I Want to Help Him!

Ok, my good friend applied to Umich at the beginning of September with an SAT score of 1260 after 2 attempts. The thing is, he took it again in November, and apparently he didnt note that he was planning to take it again on the app out of fear that his score would go down. Ok, so he got a 1360 on the Nov. SAT and received a letter saying that he was deferred from the school a couple days later. Obviously Umich judged him with a score of 1260. Is there anything he can do? Umich was his first choice and it doesnt seem fair that he would be judged on a score 100 points lower than his actual SAT score, not matter how boneheaded it was of him not to note that was going to take it again.

he should write them an email telling exactly this, but if the SAT date was too late, he cant do anything about it, and will be deffered, but will get to use his 1360 SAT when he sends it in for regular admission.

Deferred doesn’t mean rejected. He’ll be looked at again. There’s nothing he can do to change this.

But the thing is, if he had mentioned that he was taking the SAT in Nov., wouldn’t they have held off on the decision until they got his new score?

No. And even if they would have, he didn’t, so they had no obligation to. Too late now.
