Hi, I am just wondering if you want to say something abt your possible future contributions to yale, normally what kind of answer is considered as good? Is it okay to brag a little bit? or should it cover certain aspects?

Many thx!

Fill the wants and needs of a college, but try to be humble and don’t just list off achievements. “With my first place award I earned at DECA nationals for three years in a row, I will undoubtedly be able to contribute great speaking, presentation, and marketing skills, as I hope to start a DECA-club on campus, and lead it to success”.

Are you referring to the why yale essay? I need more info before I can give my input

I think it’s sort of a bit different~ I guess Why Yale essay is more like asking why yale is for you, but this one is perhaps for what you can do for yale. Is that a right intepretation?

Oh I mean, what are you referring to? what would you be writing this for?

i think what jessica is going for is one of those two big questions: what can you offer to yale? even though there’s no exact question (hence, you don’t always have to state it out, i’m assuming) i think the admissions committee should be able to tell what pluses you can bring to keep the student body diverse and talented.

Thanks chair2 for clearing up my confusion.

I would say don’t write anything about what you can contribute to yale. It should be apparent to them from the essays + app they have from you that you’d be great to have on campus, it shouldn’t be said by you in your essays.

That said, I think it’s less important to try to show you have achievements in things. What you want to do is show your passion for enthusiasm for things and your personality and that is what will make them want you on campus. I don’t believe there are certain activities that are always better than others. Whatever it is that you care about if you convey that to them well they’ll want you at yale.

Ok, thank you so much chair2 and danjinc!! :D

I do fun things with fire. Dinner and show in one package =)

Jk, I doubt Ivies need culinarily inclined students above academically motivated ones.

Write about the cooking. You may think that, but I got in and my essays were about the randomest most nonacademic subjects
