What Can You Buy At A Restaurant With a Budget of....$12?

The $5 rotisserie chicken is nice, as is the Costco chicken salad. It’s pretty tough getting restaurant meals around here for $12 or less, except if you get a big order and split something that costs $20+.

I had a lovely spinach omelette with small biscuit and potatoes at a sweet little breakfast/lunch spot where we met again with recently discovered Colorado kin. It was $12.50, but since I got coffee too it did go way over the thread’s budget.

I’m headed to a resort in Arizona this weekend and I intend to expense every meal. Does that qualify for this thread?

Ahh! It’s sinfully good. Especially when you get it hot right after it’s made :yum:

This pic doesn’t give you an idea of how big these bars are, but for $7, they’re a meal unto themselves. The bars contain oats, almond butter, sesame, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, teff, sour cherry, shredded coconut, and a little apricot jam and prunes.

My DH had chicken breast and strawberry salad and crab soup for $9.98 at Longhorn today!

We went to Bombay Eats and had lunch for 2 for $12 before tax. It is a fast casual restaurant so no tipping required (basically Chipotle for Indian food).

I had a Potato Cauliflower wrap (paratha) piled high with greens, onions, marinated cucumbers and mint coriander chutney. $5.99

DH had the Messy Samosa. Samosas covered with chana, chutney, onions and greens. $5.99

Portion sizes generous but not obscene. Had plenty to eat…and cups of water free. Perfect lunch place.

The other day, I had a stew bowl for $10.99 plus tax and 2 free cups of water. It was pretty filling so served as my dinner. It was a fast food place and I did not tip. The sandwich place had nothing under $12–most of the sandwiches were $14.99 and plates with takeout meals were $12.99 and up.

I saw an ad for a St. Patrick’s Day full corned beef and cabbage diner at a restaurant in the town I grew up in for $12.99 (just over the limit) but the plate looked huge. Now they have Friday fish fry with several varieties, with some under $12. Gotta love the midwest.

For 30 years I’ve lived here and never eaten in a very popular local seafood place. H either and he’s been here 55 years. Not sure why we’ve resisted, but we just went. It was really good! Probably not a typical CC’er level. Definitely not high end or maybe not moderate end, but we liked it. And the prices were amazing.

For the $10.29 platter, I got fried shrimp, hush puppies, Cole slaw, and a side of fried okra.

We definitely won’t wait another 30 years

It’s probably is. That’s the ticket though, not the menu.

The other day, we had nice large bowls of ramen with protein and veggies for $9 and $11 but then splurged and spent $8 on a shared dessert.

Last week we went to a long time breakfast/lunch joint we’d never tried. Very casual, lots of retirees there. I ordered the blue plate special - $6.75. Eggs and ham and potatoes and toast (I paid another 50cents to upgrade to raisin bread toast). I think my coffee was $2.50. Decent deal,

This week we tried a new Mexican place for lunch. I had an enchilada lunch plate $11.50 (with water, so under the $12). They offer 15% senior discount on Mondays, but we were too shy to ask if it applied to lunch deals.

Well the good news, they didn’t ask you if you were! (Seniors)
