What "career dreams" do you have for your children?

^^ zooser- That’s why I was so happy that WildChild’s first job out of college was in Denver. I thought it was a safe and balanced place for him to be. Now he’s gone back to the east coast…;(

Hubby, I & our kids love HI. We hope that they are able to get careers that allow them to earn enough to live here or wherever else they wish to live & have balanced lives as well. That would make me so happy!

There lies the problem. Many of our kids have chosen fields that demand an unbalanced life. As much as I want my D to succeed in her chosen field, I know that there are certain sacrifices I do not want her to make. The arts, theater, film and television are all rough on an individuals family life and psyche. I was so happy when H left the film industry. It was killing him. Now D is in music, she will be in NYC in October and November for auditions and my encouragement always comes with a caveat. In the current performing arts climate, you take what you can get and you land who-knows-where. Her biggest offer so far has come from Vienna. I want her to succeed AND be happy AND live in the United States AND prosper. I doubt that all three will be possible. She is a lot more realistic than I am when it comes to “career dreams”.

Well, sometimes people have to make tradeoffs–what kind and for how long can vary significantly. My S has been logging a LOT of flying miles. I hope at some point, they will be cut back but for now, he & we are OK with it. I know that for cinema, D will have to be in LA for some time but hope that some day she will be able to morph her career into something that gives her better balance.

As I said S1’s career is dangerous and not very conducive to home and family. The job comes first and the divorce rate is fairly high. It takes a special woman to be willing to live that life. I hope someday he finds her.

Mr PMK jr wants to be music producer, so that is what I hope for him. No matter what he winds up doing, I hope he’s content with his job and happy with his life.
