What careers are in STEM but do not really involve Engineering?

I like Math and science (bio), but I am not really interested in engineering. I have been told that if you like math and science you are interested in STEM, so is there any career that does not really focus on engineering but is involved with STEM? It does not have to be a specific job but just like a general idea. Thank You!

STEM is extremely broad but you are right people think engineering first. Scientists are are STEM careers. Many medical fields are STEM careers. Teachers who teach science and math are considered STEM careers. Some business disciplines can be STEM related - Business Information Technology. Anything with a science, technology, engineering or math focus falls in STEM.

Maybe this link will help you to see how broad STEM careers can reach.

What don’t you like about engineering? The course work? The job?
I majored in electrical engineering and my job is about being to think technically but I am not designing circuits or anything.

STEM simply stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Math. There are lots of things you could do that aren’t engineering. The problem is, many of those careers, biology research for example, require advanced degrees. One that doesn’t that is math related is Actuarial Science. Check it out and Google STEM careers. You’ll be surprised how many options there are.

Medicine is a STEM field. If you don’t want med school there are a number of allied medical fields that could work well for someone who likes STEM such as (but not limited to): physical therapist, nurse, occupational therapist, speech therapist, physicians assistant. My S likes STEM coursework and is now studying to be a speech pathologist and is very happy with her choice.

^^^^(oops it is my D studying to be a speech pathologist – not that it matters really).

Financial Engineering / Data Analytics falls under STEM I think. Sort of hybrid business & STEM I guess

My son is a computer science / data science double major.
