I was looking at the common app but I wasn’t sure where to put this in. Should I put this under the research category? I heard some people put it in honors category but I do not know where that is.
Honors is on the Education page of the CA.
If you received a recognition, you can put it there. You could also put it as an activity (research or math/science), where you’d have room for a bit more description. (If neither of those works, or if you need even more space, you could also mention it in the Add’l Info section.)
I don’t think it matters where you list it - wherever it feels right to you.
