What chances do I have/advice for schools?

Hi there. I’m a junior at one of the best prep schools in my area, and arguably, my state. I have a very strong work ethic and I’m very passionate. I have a high GPA and a good reputation with my teachers. I haven’t taken the ACT or the SAT yet, but I’m hoping/expecting to get a 28 on the ACT and in the 1800s for the SAT. I want to work in the field of entertainment and/or theatre as my career. I’ve been performing since I was three years old, had/have intense training, and I’ve been involved in multiple professional shows in my area. I’m very dedicated to the arts. I was inducted into the International Thespian Society as a freshman, been in varsity choir since my sophomore year, and recently been elected Vice President of choir by my peers. I successfully auditioned into the Missouri Fine Arts Academy, and I will be attending it this summer. I’m also very dedicated to my community. I’m planning to get the Presidential Service Award by the end of the year. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any schools for me, a highly dedicated and highly educated artist who wishes to learn more about her craft, and learn more in general.

Perhaps the theater program at Fordham Lincoln Center would give you a good mix. It is a well respected theater program (admission by audition plus academics) and it is a BA degree so you will also get a strong liberal arts education.

The only school I can really speak to is BU, and it begs an important question: what can you afford? BU is super pricey, but if you can afford it (or are attractive enough of a candidate to get preferential packaging/a strong merit offer), CFA is great. I wasn’t in CFA but I could certainly answer general questions about BU/oblique questions about CFA (I knew a few acting majors).

A 28 on the ACT is a little low for Kenyon. You ideally want to be closer to 32. 28 for Skidmore might work if all your other stuff is good. I think you would like both of those schools. Emerson should be doable.

What is it you want to major in? And I agree with the affordability question. You have public Us from multiple states. You’ll be full pay for the OOS schools.

I know I’m going to major in theatre/acting, and maybe something else, but I suppose that depends on whether or not I decide to do a BA or BFA…I’m very conflicted and not sure which path to take.
