What are the general classes that every freshman take their first year/or semester of college? Particularly Cal States if it makes any difference.

It depends on your major, but english classes are taken each semester.

multivariable calculus
ochem
some english class to satisfy the requirement
french pending AP result

I think that Middsmith was just posting his/her schedule. Most students do not begin by taking Organic Chemistry or Multivariable Calculus (those classes generally are more for sophomores than freshmen).

Typically, most students start with fulfilling general requirements: this sometimes includes a University Seminar. English is typical, as is a science (Biology is popular).

I know science majors have to take english, math, and a science. For liberal arts majors, usually they take a language, english, a science class, and a math class. They would probably want to get the science and language requirements done with right away. What are you planning to major in?

Most students who passed cal BC with a 5 go straight to multivariable calculus. I think I did well enough to skip out of the first chem class so I can take OChem. My sister did the same in her first semester at Berkeley.
