PLAN test/pre-ACT: 31
i;m hoping to improve those test scores next year. also i probably have Chinese, German, Math 1, and Physics SAT II.

EC’s: Science Olympiad, Yearbook(freshman), JV football (freshman), Asian Awareness Club, member of the chess club but never really did anything…i hate chess, working experince and 100+ voluteering hours this summer.

my course load for next year is all honors and APs so there goes my chance of raising my GPA.

i have a couple of schools in mind but would like to hear more choices.
i’m looking for an engineering school and probably will major in architecture, Electric Engineering…i’ll probably end up with a degree in psycology.

considering UMich:AA, VaTech, MSU

got any good school that you think i should be considering…i would like a rural or suburb setting.

Are you in-state? If so, I think you have a good chance…

Either way, your course load seems challenging enough, and in the next year, I imagine that your SAT scores will go up quite a bit. The GPA isn’t ideal, but you still have another year. My other piece of advice is to stay active in your ECs - colleges want to see a couple that you’re dedicated to and passionate about. Not a bunch that you’re barely involved in.

Good luck.

Other engineering schools to try: Bucknell, Clarkson, Olin, George Mason, Purdue, WUSL, RPI, Rochester…(these schools range from safeties to reaches, so hopefully you’ll like at least a few of them).

Get a great GPA next year and do very well on the SAT. Worst case go to UM-Dearborn, get a decent GPA first semester, and transfer into Ann Arbor.

ipam, for Michigan, you need to work on your GPA. That’s all the University cares about. Your 2050 SAT score could use a little boost, but you don’t need more than a 2100 to get into Michigan, as long as your unweighed GPA is over 3.8. The good news for you is that Michigan does not count Freshman year. So they will only look at your Sophomore and Junior GPA. Do your best this year and you have a chance.

i know my GPA is probably my low point right now, but taking all AP and honors it;s gonna be hard for me to raise my grade.

while i’m living in NY right now, my dad works and lives in MI…we are just waiting to sell our house so we can move there but it doesn’t look i’ll be able to move there this school year and i;m very against moving during the year. to my knowledge you can only be considered for in-state if you don’t have any other ties to out of state or something like that.

and yes i’m deeply involved in a couple of ec…i;m the co-president of the science olympiad team, and hopefully i’ll be able to start a table tennis club next year.

If you considering UMich:AA, VaTech, MSU,
Ga Tech is good choice for you, it is ranked 6th overall in engineering, But it has always been underrated. Ga Tech and MIT are the only schools to be top-ranked in all engineering.

Carnegie Mellon is a good match for you. It is very strong in electrical engineering, architecture, and psychology (your possible intended majors) and within reach with your stats (although you might need to raise your GPA a bit). The campus (in the city of Pittsburgh PA) is not rural or suburban, but it is surrounded mostly by residential neighborhoods (Shadyside, Squirrel Hill) and borders a large urban park (Schenley Park). The university also has a large body of Asian students.

I’m open to any suggestions as to where to apply. I know now I focused too much on basketball because I hoped to I’d get recruited. Well, it’s summer before my senior year and I’ve played AAU for the past 3 summers and haven’t had any real offers.
I’m from Texas; african american; want to go to school in northeast, maybe midwest.

GPA: 4.25 out of 5.00; class rank 84/805
SAT: math; 720; CR; 530; writing: 520

I guess I’ll have to take the SAT again because of the low CR. Another thing; FAid is extremely important. My parents have huge amounts of debt and literally no savings or assests.

is there something in umich rules about how you can’t have any outside ties, and since we can’t sell the house in NY, the rest of my family have to stay here and my mom is working here and paying state tax, which would also likely qualify my more NY IS if we stay here…but wouldn’t that be outside tie.
