What college is right for me?

So I wish to major in math or applied math. Could someone please tell me what the best schools for a math major are that I have a shot of getting into. I posted a chance me before with a list of colleges, so ill just copy and paste from that thread:

So here is my academic history:

GPA including freshman year: 3.57 unweighted / 4.132 weighted
GPA of Sophmore and Junior year: 3.68 unweighted/ 4.62 weighted

The reason my freshman year gpa is so low is that my father became ill with cancer and passed away during freshman year.

My class has about 60 kids, and I am ranked probably 2nd or 3rd.

SAT: 2400 (this changed from last thread, took it a second time).

I have taken every AP/honors course my school has offered(they offered none freshman year). I am part of FBLA, STEM, music ensemble, play classical guitar. I volunteer an hour a week in a big brother program and a literacy program. I took a computer science course at Johns Hopkins during the summer, and had a paid internship at City of Hope researching cancer.

Legacy: I have legacy at Yale, Princeton, and University of Chicago.

So thanks, and if you could tell me what the best schools are for a math major, I would be really grateful.

It sounds like you are probably at a private school so I would start with your school GC. If that’s a feeder school to the Ivies you have many options. Cornell is great for math, U Chicago, Princeton. Is your state flagship of interest to you? They usually have very good math programs. Make sure you talk with your parents about how much they can afford to pay.

All three schools have great math programs. But they are crapshots even for legacies. You should apply widely then decide which one you want to go to once you are accepted.

Bubbles thats what I plan to do, I was just wondering if you had any suggestions of which schools to apply widely to.

ErinsDad, I am at a private school but my GC is useless. I think she has aspergers and is unreachable. I wouldnt call my school a feeder school per se, but in the past two years, graduates went to stanford(1), princeton(2), penn(3), columbia(2) out of about 120 seniors. About my state flagship, I live in california so I am seriously considering Berkeley. Does berkeley have a good math program? Also, do you think I will be able to get in to Berkeley considering my relatively poor GPA(do UC’s consider freshman GPA?)

UCs do not consider freshman GPA directly (they do in part by using class rank). Berkeley has an outstanding math dept. Do a google search for a UC weighted GPA calculator to see how it looks.
