Ok, so this will probably suck relative to everyone else. Who cares, though. In the end it’s all about the consequentialist viewpoint, and I highly doubt the future generation of America’s upper class is in this forum.

Class of 2009, Asian American

GPA: 3.66 unweighted

SAT2: 750, 760 so far

Prospective SAT 1 score (based on a lot of practice tests): 2310

I do debate fairly well, and will probably score an officer position my Junior position (probably captain)

I also volunteer every week at a poor school tutoring kids.

Yeah, I don’t do much, but then again I don’t really care…

My advice (though I know you didn’t ask for it): find something you’re passionate about, because colleges aren’t looking for kids who “don’t really care.”

The subject of your post is too vague. Where are you thinking about applying? You might want to head over to the Chances thread.

Well, it’s not I don’t really care about my life or anything. I just don’t care what college I’ll go to. Anyway, I was thinking of applying to one of UCs…

I got way deeper in my philosophy but it would some people here feel insecure.

Either way, can a mod move this to the chances board?

" find something you’re passionate about, because colleges aren’t looking for kids who “don’t really care.”"

Oh hush with that crap. That whole passion thing is something made up by the CC’ers here so that they can think they have an edge in their apps by their EC’s all being geared towards the same thing.

If anything, I think colleges would like to see open minded people who try a little bit of everything rather than just one thing.

I like No Quarter’s style. He’s strong in one EC and volunteers.

If your SAT pulls through you’ll have a good shot at a lot of schools.

And don’t bother going deeper, it’s just going to cause a fight because they’re bound to get insecure.

The “passion” thing isn’t really real, but you’ve got to have something you’re really good at - passionate or not - so that admissions officers know you can contribute to or bring prestige to the college.

What college will you go to? Only you know. What do you want from college? If you just want to blend in and get your degree, then, yes, the UC’s sound perfect for you. They allow for that as well as any number of other things in case you change your mind later.

UC admission is heavily weighted on GPA too. Your SAT II and prospective SAT I are in line for UCB, UCLA, UCSD. If you maintain unweighted GPA > 3.8 in UC approved courses and also have some AP/Hons. Classes, you will have a good shot at college of letter and Sciences at all the UCs.
With 3.66 unweighted you may look at UCSD as matches, UC LA and UC B as reaches.

Well, I kinda messed up this year. Next year, though I’ll be taking a lot of classes in which I’m good at. Do colleges look at unweighted or weighted GPA?

UCLA, Cal are probably slight slight reaches, UCSD, safe-ish match provided your weighted GPA is higher (~4.0) and your SAT is as projected.

“Do colleges look at unweighted or weighted GPA?”

Weighted junior and sophmore, w/ 8 sem. AP/honors extra point cap.

You can probably get into most of the UC’s if your from california. If your not you need to raise your gpa. Colleges will look at both weighted and unweighted cuz they both imply different things. And bud, you have to start caring.

Please chance me at:
