I come from a really competitive high school. My GPA is a 3.5278 (for the UC schools it is a 3.6) and I have taken 3 honors classes and 9 AP classes (World History, U.S. History, English Language, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Government and Politics, English Literature, and Macroeconomics). My SAT Score is a 2120 and I have taken 3 SAT subject tests and I got a 800 on the World History, 780 on the Biology, and 690 on the Literature. I have been heavily involved in my church but that doesn’t count for community service hours I have heard. Unfortunately, I have not done any other extracurriculars, like play a sport or something. I also did really bad in regular Physics (C+). What are my chances of getting into any of the following colleges and what other colleges should I apply to?

Boston University
Brandeis University

I’m not so familiar with the west coast schools so I’m not a lot of help, but I just want to say that you have done really well and I can’t imagine that one C+ in a tough course like physics will be a big problem (especially if you are not pursuing the sciences). And your work at church certainly should count as an extracurricular activity even if it is not called community service. You can always get an extra recommendation letter from someone at the church talking about your work and accomplishments.

Community service is not a requirement - or even recommended - for college admissions. It’s one kind of extracurricular activity that many people choose to do - just like sports or music or any other EC - to show that they are engaged in their community and an active particiant. And being active in your church is a perfectly acceptable EC - and demonstrates that engagement in and commitment to a community.
