What colleges can i get in with a 3.4 GPA, 1430 on the SAT, 22 on ACT?

Should I go to a community college and transfer to high reaching university?
i meant 1430 in total including the writing section

1) what grade are you in?
2) 3.4 weighted or uw?

You can probably get into a state school. Most applications posted on here are for ivies or schools similar to ivies and many of the posters are qualified (over-qualified) even though people will reply to them that they have slim chances. Don’t let this website get you down. There are tons of kids at my school that have similar stats some lower and I don’t think any of them are applying to city c. If you really want to go to cc then that’s fine, but if you are limiting yourself bc you think your stats aren’t high enough, then rethink. There are tons of schools. Depending on where you live and how far you want to go. Just find a good match and a school that is looking for the statistics you have. If you want to go to a really good university then yes, stay at City college and then transfer but remember, you have to get really good grades and have a GPA higher than what you have in HS.

You should be able to attend state or regional universities. My sister got a 21 on the ACT and similar or maybe a little higher GPA than yours and she got accepted to both our state school and the local one.

Don’t worry! You have plenty of options. My son had nearly the same stats when he was applying last year. He got in at 5/6 schools where he applied (bottom 25% of stats) which included both public and private schools. Here are a few tips:

Take the ACT or SAT again, after reviewing the section you scored lowest. He was able to raise his ACT by 3 points.

Don’t slack off in school. His GPA increased to a 3.5 by the time he graduated.

Make sure you have a great essay.

Try to meet with admissions staff at the school you really want. Making a good impression can give you an edge.

Even if you increase your GPA and test score after being accepted, let the school know. My son got an extra $3,000 in scholarship money.

LSU is a pretty good university to look at.

Friend’s daughter got in with similar stats to St. Joe’s in Philly. Absolutely loves it in every way. Great community service, etc. This was her reach school and she got in and was given very good merit scholarship money due to the community service. (She was rejected from several "safties/matches- you never know what a school is looking for.)

You have many schools you are a fit for. While maybe not some of the large state U’s (though it is worth an application and stats vary from school to school) you are likely a match at many state colleges. You have no need to think you should attend a community college unless you want to.

There are books at Borders (maybe Amazon too) for suggestions for B students, etc… browse the college book section. Also, buy a good College guide (the USNEWs book is pretty comprehensive) and start your search. There are many, many schools for you!!!

Since your GPA is better than your standardized scores would suggest, I would also suggest taking a look at the list of test-optional schools. Here’s a link to the list [Optional List | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)

Someone in my son’s graduating class had very low SAT scores (lower than yours and never tried the ACTs). She had plenty of Cs and a few Ds and no honor or AP classes. She applied to a small private 3rd tier college and they called her in for an interview. They let her know that her stats were below average for their school, but they saw some things that they were looking for in her application. She was involved in a few ECs at school (nothing special, just regular hs activities), and also worked PT, so they called her in for an interview. They told her this during her interview. The interview went well, and she was admitted to the school, and seems to be doing well.

Editing this to let you know that approximately a 21 on the ACT is the average score of test takers, so you have plenty of company. Don’t get the idea that most students score between a 28-36. It looks that way when you read stats on college confidential.

thanks everyone for your help! my unweighted is a 3.4 and my weighted is a 4.1. my academic core is a 3.7

Wow. Why did you take the ACT? Without it you’re fine.

If you are in the upper half of your class, you could get into a lot of smaller liberal arts colleges if you’re so inclined. Your gpa is great! And everything I’ve read shows that transcipts trump everything as long as it filled with classes that challenged you.

Hi everybody. I am a junior in highschool and I really have to start thinking about which colleges I should apply to. I currently have 3.4 GPA (hoping its going to raise this year). I am in all honors, and so far I have 2 AP classes. Next year, I signed up for 4 AP. I did not take my SAT’s yet (planning on taking them in march) and realistically, I am aiming for a 1700-1800.
For extra curricular activities, I have track (indoor and outdoor), newspaper club, key club, &Italian club. I volunteer every Tuesday at my local library as well. Also, I would like to major in creative writing, and I have a few poems that will be able to go down as a publication.
My dreams schools are University of Virginia, New York University (a little far reached) and UDel. But I really have to focus on realistic schools. Any ideas? Thank you!

Start a new thread. This one is very old and will confuse posters.
