What colleges did you get accepted into and how much scholarship money did the school give you?

For those who are looking for a success story, my financial aid package increased substantially after appeal. Initially, I had $21,000 in grant money. Now, I have $30,000 in grant money, $2,500 work study, and a $5,500 unsubsidized loan. All of this occurred while my family’s income actually increased. So there is hope out there. The FASFA and CSS Profile don’t tell the whole story and if you appeal, they will try to help you

Which is it? $0 or $30,000 in grant money?

NU doesn’t give merit aid…is that what you meant…because if so, it would have been good to clarify this for the OP. Some people use the terms grant and scholarship interchangeably.
