Hey, I’m graduating a year early. Freshman and sophomore year I got mostly As and like three Bs. This year though, (junior technically senior year). I’ll be getting 2 Bs and 1 C my first semester. The rest of them are As. I’m applying to colleges rn. I got a 1550 on my SAT.
I’m the president of a large club at school, debate captain(participated in district competition), student director of communication at an organization, taught language and science concepts to kids in a foreign country(got national recognition), did my culture’s traditional singing for ten years, was Event Planner of Orchestra for a year, did a year of Varsity Choir, and member of an Interfaith Organization.
I’m applying for the Social Work major.
Where should I apply? I don’t care as long as its not in BMF nowhere and not in the South.
I’d also like it to be at least semi-prestigious!
A few questions (though others might have more) …
- Why are you graduating early?
- What state are you in?
- What can you afford for school? Have you talked to your parents about what they’re able to contribute? Without concrete numbers, it’ll be difficult for folks here to make recommendations, but with them, people will be able to suggest a wider variety of options.
- Is there something in particular that interests you about social work? Knowing what’s appealing about that major (and/or what you intend to do with it after college) will further help folks give tailored suggestions.
Have you applied anywhere yet?
Budget?
- I just don’t want senioritis since I know I won’t do well senior year because of it.
- TX
- For the sake of this thread, I’m disregarding budget but I’m looking into it later
- Pre-law
Nope, early grad was kind of a last minute decision. I’m only looking at colleges with a January deadline. Prob should’ve mentioned that.
Any tx public that will accept you. Lamar. Tech. Stephen F Austin
Etc
Will you, in three years , meet the required classes for a 4 year institution? If not your local CC
I’m going out of state, Some colleges require Calculus but I have everything except that
You need to see if you have 4 years English. 3 years math etc. OOS where ? Budget etc
Do u have schools of interest ??
I like Emerson, Emory, and Boston University. I have four years of math, science, english, and history. For the sake of this thread I’m disregarding budget. Forgot to mention but I took 7 APs.
What’s your gpa , test scores etc. all three are hard admits. Emory and Emerson don’t match. You missed early apps. Those likely won’t happen but don’t know anything about u.
1550 SAT, 3.8 unweighted, 4.7 weighted(my school’s gpa weighting is weird and it might go down after this semester)
Based on your greater interests, such as in prelaw, perhaps sociology might represent a desirable major for you.
It’s a bit of a waste of time to look into this later. Have your parents said how much they are willing to pay each year?
What is your GPA? Tbh, semi-prestigious is going to be a reach for you, as colleges care most about grades and course rigor. Your SAT score is good but with 5 B’s and a C for five semesters (right?) I’m not sure your GPA is as high as it might be if you had an extra two semesters of straight A’s on your transcript. And we have no idea if you took the most rigorous courses at yiur high school. More info is needed please.
If law doesn’t work out I’m trying to help kids in the foster care system, which is why I chose Social Work.
Your college list should start with your budget. Run the net price calculators at Emory, Emerson, and BU and let us know if those cost estimates are affordable. It makes no sense to apply to a school that will be unaffordable.
Emory and BU will be high reaches in RD. How many years of foreign language have you taken?
What were your AP scores?
3.8 unweighted and 4.7 weighted. I took 7 APs and something like 8 advanced classes
I understand that you are trying to get a sense of your chances just based on grades/scores/ECs, but in your case especially, budget is intertwined with admissions. Having to rely on the Regular Decision round in January means that (1) most deadlines for competitive merit scholarships have passed, and (2) many schools have already allocated a significant amount of their financial aid budgets to Early Decision and Early Action applicants. So you will likely need to find a place that your family can afford without relying on significant merit aid. In addition, some universities are need-aware, meaning that your ability to pay plays a direct role in whether you will be admitted. I would urge you to talk with your family and develop a budget asap.
I’m taking AP Spanish so four years of language. I got 4s on all the tests I’ve taken so far, but this year I’m taking four APs so I haven’t taken the test yet
You gpa seems higher than it should with 5 B’s and a C, did you get LOR’s since this seems last minute?
