What Colleges With Strong Fine Arts Programs Give The Most Financial Aid to B Students?

Anyone aware of the latest info on which colleges & universities with strong Fine Arts programs offer the most financial
aid to B students (not National Merit scholarship winners)? Also in the Midwest?

It does not make any senses for any schools to award scholarships to A students less than B students

Do you have financial ‘Need’? Some colleges will meet need for all accepted students. Some will use preferential packaging and artistic merit may or may not get consideration. Or are you seeking merit awards?

Are you considering a program that requires a talent? If so, look for schools that focus merit aid on talent. Pick some schools and do some research - go on the website for the department, and you’ll be able to find info.

Are you planning to major in th fine arts? If so, which one?

What colleges with strong art programs will meet “Need” for all accepted students? We’re most likely not seeking Merit awards. Does anyone know the top 20+ schools giving the most financial aid?

She’s most likely majoring in Studio Art.

Anyone know anything about how hard it is to get into Webster University-St. Louis for Studio Art?

Is she a current high school senior, looking to start college in fall 2016?

The top academic schools also give the most need based FA. And it is hard for B students to get into these schools.

For any college she is looking at, run the net price calculator on the college website to see what you would be expected to pay.

For studio art…the student would likely need to have a “portfolio” review as part of the admissions process. The strength of the portfolio relative to other applicants that year will be the deciding factor for merit aid.

Are you looking for top 20 colleges with full need…and excellent studio art programs?

I’ll be honest…I don’t think you will find that.

Many of the top universities do have excellent studio art courses…but as noted above…acceptance to those with a B average isn’t a slam dunk…actually it’s not likely.

You may have better luck looking for scholarship/merit aid at art schools. While they will look at grades and scores, the portfolio will be a strong deciding factor in funding.

It’s hard to figure out what you want or maybe the problem is that you want something that isn’t likely possible for a B student.

the schools that give the best need based aid often do not accept B students. The best merit awards don’t usually go to B students.

Art students who get TALENT scholarships have to submit a porfolio.

Art schools usually give LOUSY aid, and LOUSY merit.

What are your child’s stats?

How much can you pay each year?

Many local CCs have very good art classes.

A few thoughts that may be helpful; based on a student’s experience a few years ago. B+ student with 1800’ish SATs, a solid portfolio and low-income (%'s are just estimates):

St Olaf - NASAD accredited and solid fine arts dept, admitted with 6000 art merit, met 100% of need
SMU (TX) - solid fine arts dept: admitted with 7500 art merit and solid finaid (90%+)
Pepperdine - admitted with 10,000 art merit and mediocre finaid (half as much as SMU - maybe 70%)
Trinity University (TX) - solid fine arts dept. admitted with 5,500 art and 10,000 academic merit, not the best finaid (maybe 80%)
Southwestern U (TX) - solid fine arts dept. admitted with 21,000 art and academic combined merit, not the best finaid (maybe 80%)

Other schools looked at but either didn’t apply or wasn’t admitted:
Syracuse - NASAD accredited and solid fine arts - they don’t meet 100% of need but have decent aid (didn’t apply)
Skidmore - NASAD accredited and solid fine arts - much wider range of admission standards than other high ranking LACs - but they look at financials - so if you don’t need aid, might stand a chance. They meet 100% of need or close to it.

Not so much for art, but good for B+ students:
Wooster (OH) - 22,500 acad merit and solid finaid (85%+)
Redlands (CA) - 10,500 acad merit, 3500 art and mediocre finaid (70%'ish)

There are also a variety of Christian schools that give good merit and art scholarships. If interested in these let me know.

So sorry for this ridiculously late reply. But, yes, I am very interested in knowing what Christian schoosl give good merit & art scholarships. Thank you . . if you’re still there.
