<p>I’m a junior, and still hope to get my SATs up… but what colleges would be a good match?

Going to Key club convention and JCL (Latin)
Dance: over 10 hours a week (member of both a ballet and a jazz company)
Math tutor (for someone in Stats and someone in 6th grade)
Summer math program this coming summer (if I get in)
Last summer: cultural dance exchange in China
SAT: 1810
AP stats: 4
I realize my SAT score is low but I took it for the first time with no prep… I’m pretty confident I can get it up to at least 2000. And I’m planning on taking subject tests at the end of this year.
So, with these stats and a hopefully higher SAT score, what are my chances? What should I ideally get on my subject tests and SAT? Colleges I’m particularly interested in are Pomona and Berkeley. But I’m really open to anywhere as long as it is in the more competitive range. Thanks!</p>

<p>I’ll second cowman, you’ll really need 2100+ to get into Berkeley.</p>
<p>based upon the UC “point-like” grading system. Unfortunately I think Berkeley is a stretch because of the weight that standardized testing bears. In addition based upon the points system… your EC’s do not demonstrate enough strength try approaching this year with the intention of fulfilling leadership roles.</p>

<p>Emmers, what do you think I can do to improve my ecs? And I’m have very little preference for instate vs. out of state… CA might be slightly preferable, but I just want to go somewhere that’s going to be best for me. Any other colleges that are in my range?</p>
<p>personally (i’m a well researced highschool senior, so my word doesn’t hold much merit), I think your EC’s demonstrate breadth, but I feel two time treasurer does not necessarily give you much depth. I think leadership roles demonstrate superior commitment and if you write a great essay on one of your passions/commitments that you’ve devoted a ton of time towards, it would definitely make your application more holistically competitive.</p>
<p>Anyways a big question i forgot is are you leaning towards a major… even if your leaning… program prowess can often times differentiate a good education vs. great education. and i’m assuming you’re striving for great education.</p>
<p>My biggest ec is definitely dance! I usually dance 3 hours a day (6 days a week) and during shows up to 6… I want to major in math and possibly double major with psycology, but math is the one I feel stronger about. For math, I’m planning on doing a summer program this summer and I tutor. I’m pretty sure I can do well on the Math subject test and know I can get my math SAT up cause my problem on my first SAT (and only so far) was I got really stressed out by the time and rushed through my work and made a lot of really stupid mistakes. As for CR… that’s just a hard section for me, but I’ll try to study some SAT books.</p>
<p>To be honest though, UC’s are focusing more and more on GPA rather than SAT. The SAT still counts but as long as you have a good GPA and a decent SAT you should be good to go for most UC’s. With those stats I’d say UCSD is a good choice. UCI, UCSB, UCD are all good choices too. Cal Poly SLO is also a great school and you should be in with your grades.</p>
