what colleges...?

I’m a junior and i have a 3.3/4 GPA
I take 2 AP classes - AP Gov’t & Pol and AP Lit
the other classes aren’t AP’s but they’re the 2nd toughest offered
As a junior I’m taking Calculus, not AP though, and i’m getting a C in the course.
My extracurriculars are:
Dancing, which i’ve been doing for about 6-7 years
Piano, for about 6-7 years
Im involved in 3-4 clubs in school
No sports
I plan on getting a job and volunteering over the summer
and i want to be a doctor…so major in bio or pre-med
thanksss

where are u from?

New Jersey

nice a fellow jerseyian. central, southern or northern?

this may seem a bit lame but i suggest apply to Rutgers.

you and i are in a similar situation because my GPA is approx the same as yours if not a tad bit higher. In addition im also in 2 AP’s junior year ( max 3 for junior year…that is if you get in). whats more astonishing is our similar career choice.

anyway to the point…

Rutgers has a very good pre-med program because some classes are the same as their pharm program.
BU also has a good program if you get in but may be a slight reach or high match

hope this helped ( a bit…)

thanks…it did help!!!
nahh i dont think Rutgers is lame, i think its a pretty good school
yeah i really wanted to go to BU before but its pretty expensive
hahah, i’m from north—morris county !
hmm this is probably a stupid question but do you think i have a chance at University of California- Irvine?

responses are greatly appreciated :)

Thee bad news and then the good. No, I think you won’t have much of a chance at Irvine unless you have close to a 2400. In state average GPA is like 3.8.

The good news is that it isn’t worth the $40K and they give almost no aid to oos kids. It’s also not a great pre med choice because of the weeding and the curve. Harder than at a lot of schools to get the high GPA you need for med school. And only about 35% graduate in 4 years so you’ll be paying that tuition for probably 5 years.

“Thee bad news and then the good. No, I think you won’t have much of a chance at Irvine unless you have close to a 2400. In state average GPA is like 3.8.”

You put so much weight on the SAT. That’s not the reality. And in-state average GPA is not 3.8 (that’s closer to the in-state GPA of Berkeley and UCLA). Irvine’s stats:

* 45% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher

 • 36% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
 • 16% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
 • 3% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24

“and they give almost no aid to oos kids.”

Support?

To the OP: I think you might have a chance there – possibly – but since you’re OOS, it’d probably be pretty difficult and not worth the price or the hassle to travel there, when there are colleges in your area that are just as good, like Rutgers, which would be about $20k/year for you.

Kyle, can we assume you lave low SATs? You posted matriculated numbers, not accepted ones.

“Kyle, can we assume you lave low SATs?”

That’s a pathetic response technique.

Whether or not those stats are for matriculated or accepted, it doesn’t matter, because for a university like Irvine, the matriculated will be lower than the accepted. Even if that weren’t true, you can see that those stats indicate the distribution of GPAs, and so if you’re in those brackets, you’re good. =)

Again, where is the support for the fact that Irvine gives little to no aid to OOS students?

California mandates that the vast majority of aid dollars go to in state students.

Support? I would venture to guess that that’s true, but I doubt that they’d leave OOS-ers completely hanging (or close to it).

UCs and CSUs are paid for by the tax payers of CA and are there to serve that population. They have almost no aid for OOS and international students and they’re honest about it. This is the case for many state schools and it makes sense.

wow, thanks to everyone!
yeah i figured that it would be very tough to get in UCI, but i just wanted to know your opinions.
thanks again!

Funny how I ask for support and get simply reiteration of facts …
