What color Mums, help me decide!

I’m almost embarrassed to put a photo of our patio. With the lake cottage, we never sit out here untiL the fall so it’s looking unkempt right now. But I bought the yellow mums in the background and don’t know which color to use in the foreground pots. Which is your favorite. The yellow ones aren’t planted so can be moved around.

No wrong decision as they all look beautiful, but I love the pop of the yellow.

I like to mix and match - sometimes I’m surprised by what color the mum actually is when it’s fully opened.

Boy does that concrete needs power washed or what??? Plus, looks better with our green and white striped chair pads.

We will be getting (for each pot on our porch) three smaller mums…one yellow, one purple, one orange…and they will be put in each pot. It really is bright and cheerful. Also, our door wreath for fall has fall leaves and this picks up all of the colors.

I think your patio looks great!

I love all colors of mums, but I like the brightness of the yellow ones.

Not #3, it matches the brickwork too much. I love the other ones, yellow is a nice pop but the magenta-ish ones are a less traditional choice that is very pretty too.

and your patio looks wonderful

I’m the outlier and like pic #3 best. I find yellow mums too vibrant for “muted” fall. I like #3 because I think the amber ones (orange) help to tone down the yellow.

I also am not a matchy person - so totally prefer not all the same one color in an area. With just two plants yes, but with 4 I would prefer 2 colors. The amber ones are pretty with the color of your home.

I like number 3 best. Your patio looks nice. Granted my least favorite color is yellow. I like how mums give a good pop of color for not a lot of work. I do find that at my house I easily get aphids on my mums.

I like the all of the colors of the mums. I agree that your patio looks lovely.

H says no mums for me this fall since we are going to be away for 2 weeks and he doesn’t want the cat sitter to have a lot of extra work watering. Mums don’t last long for me anyway in San Diego. I told him I was going to do extra pumpkins and gourds out front since he won’t let me get mums!

I love pumpkins, gourds and mums. But I gave up on the pumpkins and gourds as the rabbits take them out one at a time. Sigh…And yes I have tried all of the tricks.

I think mums often don’t last long - not here in the Midwest either! Unless you get one that is very early in the bud/blooming process. They bloom out and are done.

BTW, I believe that they suggest watering mums from the bottom, not the top.

My mom had a magic thumb with mums (and all plants). She would always plant them somewhere in the yard after they bloomed and sure enough she had oodles of mums the next year. She always had to divide and give them away because they would get so big!

Costco in Minnesota had all kinds of colors this afternoon. My brother bought this one even though their summer flowers still look great.

I recently saw a suggestion that you place mums in a large bowl or pail, and put water in the pail. This keeps them moist enough and they apparently last longer. I might try that!

I went with the yellow. I’m bummed to read they won’t last long though. Oh well. $36 isn’t too bad.

Total?

LOL… I misread the title … “What color? Mums/moms, help me decide”. Thought it might be a MOB/MOG thread.

Loved seeing all the pretty photos.
