What counts as an elective course?

Hello, I’m trying to calculate my unweighted and weighted GPA according to how Stanford does it, i.e., no freshman grades, no electives.

But what counts as an elective? How about honors journalism? Or Anatomy & Physiology? Is an elective anything that’s not an academic class (like Piano, Chorus, Orchestra, Child Development)?

Stanford considers all courses outside of the “core” subjects to be electives—that is, anything except Math, Science, English, Social Studies, or a Foreign Language is considered an elective.

Did honors jounalism count as an English credit in your high school? If so, then factor it into the gpa. If not, it’s an elective. The same goes for Anatomy and Physiology and any other class you have.
