Alright, i’m new to CC but I’ve read tons of post but can’t seem to find the answers to my questions. What credentials would someone who wanted to attend usf (Florida) need? What credentials would they need for the nrotc scholarship? Will usf likely take transfer credits from dual enrollment from Polk state college? Any help with this will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Average SAT for USF is about 1800
Average ACT is 25

For NROTC, officially you need a math SAT above 520, verbal above 530, or ACT above 22.

In reality you need a SAT of at least 1800, or ACT of at least 26. In other words, if you can get a NROTC scholarship, you can get into USF.

NROTC also requires you to be physically fit. Their physical fitness test includes 1.0 mile run, push ups, and crunches.

Finally, NROTC really – truly – wants you to major in engineering, or at least a hard science such as physics.

I don’t know anything about Polk State.

Are you looking for a NROTC scholarship straight out of high school, or did you graduate a year or more ago?

Straight out of high school. I’m going into junior year this year. And for the nrotc scholarships there’s tier 1 tier 2 and tier 3 and it says 85% are awarded to to tier 1 and tier 2. Does this mean tier 1 and tier 2 majors are both viewed equal?

The Tiers are used to help the Navy determine whether to give you a scholarship or not. In other words, you are more likely to get a scholarship if you commit to a Tier 1 major rather than Tier 2. The Navy does not appear to officially state those percentages, however.

I thought because of your statement about Polk State that perhaps you already graduated.

Another thing to remember is that the Navy wants you to give them the names of five colleges which you would be willing to attend. So, you will need to have four more, in addition to South Florida. Take a look at Tulane University, because they offer free room and board to all ROTC scholarship recipients.
