I’ve been taking classes for a major that obviously wasn’t the best for me. With the addition of slacking due to personal reasons for both of my years at Community College, I currently have a 2.0 GPA. I plan to change my major to one that I am better at but also transfer from this school. Is there any school that I can go to in this situation?
You may need to do another year at CC to pull up your GPA. Not sure any 4 year SUNYs are amenable to a 2.0 transfer. Your CC counselor would know if it is possible.
Hi @MadeInNY
Never fear. The sun will come up tomorrow. You can achieve a 4-year institution, but you will need to improve your grades. You probably know that already.
If you were my child, I would recommend that you step back and take a look at your performance and really be honest about why you procrastinated or “slacked”. Meet with your counselor and figure out a plan to overcome the issues keeping you back.
As long as you don’t get married and start a family, you can take a break and go back to college at any time. Maybe take a semester off and think about why you’re in school.
I would tell my kids to take a break until they were sure that they were ready to attend college and get As for grades.
Here’s what you can do in the meanwhile:
- volunteer.gov -- some positions offer housing
- student conservation association -- there are several different programs here -- https://www.thesca.org/
- workaway.info -- work for 3-4 hours per day around the world in exchange for a place to sleep and sometimes meals -- https://www.workaway.info/
- Quaker voluntary service -- there's also a Catholic volunteer service if you google for it -- http://www.quakervoluntaryservice.org/
- coolworks -- paying jobs all over the us in beautiful places -- https://www.coolworks.com/
