What Day Is It? Did You Get Fooled Or Fool?

You know the drill on this day. Share your fav 4-1-26 “fools” or one from the past.

My SIL called me this morning. She told me a trusted friend posted on FB that today Costco was doing a nationwide gas for $1.50 from 12-4pm in all time zones. She wanted to know if I heard about it. Her call came as I was working so I didn’t think twice about it and said I hadn’t but would let her know if I saw anything.

As soon as I mentioned it to my H he laughed and said “good one, that’s an April Fool’s joke” - duh, never crossed my mind and apparently not hers either and I texted her and she was indeed not fooling me but had been fooled herself!

I mean, Costco would not do this right?!!! :joy:

I got fooled by my local online newspaper. They had a lengthy story about a light rail being built underground to connect all parts of my city, and said it would be funded by Federal dollars. The only “funny” piece was when it mentioned that a portion of the tunnel could only be six feet wide, and the rendering showed people ducking to get inside the train. At the end of the story, it said “Happy April Fools Day!” I had been totally taken in – and it would have been so wonderful if it had been true!!

No pranks for me, but today is my BF’s birthday which always meant unwanted pranks that often upset her. I make sure to send her lovely cards that celebrate our long friendship and ignore the nonsense.

My first thought was: Does your husband know ? But, then you clarified.

What day is it?

Since this is a college forum, a college prank from years ago. “Joe” took out an ad in the student paper that announced the grand opening of College Pizza and offered a $2 large pizza deal, today only. He then listed the phone number of “Frank”. Needless to say the phone was ringing off the hook!

But Frank wasn’t about to take this lying down. He put a message on his answering machine that said due to a clerical error the office phone number had been listed, to order a pizza they needed to call the main number. And gave the phone number for Joe.

Saw a few on facebook: Lobster, tenderloin steak and bottle of Perrier on an airline flight, snow in low-lying areas of Portugal, … but my favorite was the announcement that pickleball courts wer coming to the atrium of the Atlanta airport!

I posted on the Say It Here thread before this one was started.

This morning, while I was still half asleep my watch notifications started blowing up. I finally opened them and ds2 and his gf sent pics of their new puppy to the family text chain! The gf has never been on this family chain so this def was new. And seemed to indicate a new level! That distracted me!!! They both love dogs so getting a dog together didn’t seem crazy, and the gf is moving into her own place without roommates so I thought maybe the dog was a security thing. I was delighted for them! Ds said that they signed a prepup! My response was for more details, please, so then he called and told me to get his dad on the phone, too. They had a whole story about how the dog was named Limoncello, but they renamed him Blue, short for Bluebonnet. I asked him why he didn’t mention it yesterday when he called, but he said they wanted to tell us together blah blah blah. And then they yelled “April Fools!”

Dh and I were so bummed. We want another granddog (if we can’t have an actual grandchild)! I told him he better call his brother, because he already was quoting movies about Blue on the text chain. This is why I said on the Say It Here thread that we are an earnest bunch and totally fell for this prank as we would never suspect someone would try to prank us. But later, they sent a video of her calling and pulling the same prank on her parents, and she was just do delighted that they totally fell for it. In the video, her mother said that yesterday she had warned the dad to be prepared for something today but that they still fell for it!

I am a property manager at a HUD subsidized apartment complex for low income seniors age 62 and older. I have a full time maintenance man, a full time service coordinator and a part time assistant manager.

My service coordinator planned a prank for the maintenance man. We gathered in my office this morning to start our spring inspections. I sent her to the other office to get something (this was preplanned) and she went in and started screaming. The maintenance man went in and found her standing there with a foot on top of an overturned wastebasket. She told him that she’d caught a mouse and he needed to take it outside.

He got some cardboard, slid it under, and took it outside to the other side of the yard. Then he dropped it and took the wastebasket away to find a computer mouse.

The “new” TSA “requirement” of clear carryons to speed up inspections was a big LOL!

I was reading MSN news and saw the headline and was scratching my head thinking if it was a joke or not at first, but when I started reading the article I immediately realized it was! Now apparently many folks were tricked by it so the website I linked above appended “April Fools Day” to the headline! We live in such crazy times that it is hard to decipher what is not a joke!!

I honestly thought I read the entire article and don’t recall seeing anything about April Fools Day but I didn’t even remember it was April Fools Day. I no longer work and no little kids around so who knows - this kind of fits with what’s happening in our country today, so yep, I fell for it!
