What degrees should you have before applying for Ph.D in music ed?

I was wondering what degrees you need to have completed to be selected for acceptance into a program for Ph.D in music education. I’m on track for receiving my B.M.E (music education) but was wondering what my options are for a master’s degree.

Do I have to get a MM? Or can it be an MA or MFA?

If it must be an MM, must it be an MM in music education, or can it be performance, since I am going to get an undergrad music ed degree?

Do the prerequisites typically vary with school?

Thanks in advance!

I think a lot of us here are geared towards info about u/g degrees, but here are some suggestions:

pick out 6-10 schools that might appeal to you for a Ph.D, and see what their requirements are

go to your school office, ask them your questions, and find out who can advise you
