What did everyone write for the section that asks for favourite book, movie, recording, etc?
Also by “recording” do they mean music?
By “recording”, I believe they mean any recorded audio product, whether musical or not. Examples would include an old Woody Allen standup comedy recording, the soundtrack from “A South Park Christmas”, and MLK’s “I have a dream” speech. The possibilities are endless and there are no right (but many poor) answers.
Do we go for straightforward and to-the-point answers or should we go on to explain our answers?

Answer how you need to, so that the adcoms know you. Short, where you need no explanation, but if a few more words will make one or two of your responses memorable, go for it. Just don’t try the reader’s patience by writing long responses to every short prompt.
The admission folks probably can tell when you are laying it on too thick or manufacturing a response in attempt to appease them. Be yourself in the response and you’ll get more attention than attempting to wow them with made up answers.
