My husband and I have never shopped on Black Friday before, but since he’s still working 7 days a week from Sandy on the night shift, we went to Kohl’s and the mall around 10 am on Friday. We got almost all of our shopping done and got the much-needed outerwear for him to pick up debris and garbage this winter. We hit pretty much no crowds anywhere and saved a ton of money. JC Penney had fantastic prices on sweatshirts, long underwear and such. We were also able to get a few dress shirts for my son in his size 14 1/2. All in all, very productive.

Zoosermom, for work clothes, Id also recommend workingpersons.com They have a good selection of all kinds of stuff including brands like Filson and free shipping over $49.

Oh thanks Emeraldkity!!

I think there’s a difference between merely shopping the sales on BF and enabling and encouraging the miserable tactics of some the big big box stores - limiting items to encourage people to line up before dawn ( bait and switch for the majority), the stampeding when doors are open, etc. Not to mention that now many of these stores are now opening on “gray” Thursday, taking employees away from their families on the holiday itself.

I don’t usually shop on BF, though.

Nothing! I hate the whole concept. I resent being “programmed” to shop on a particular day with a world of crazies willing to hit me over the head for something they want worse than I do. And I’d gladly pay more not to have to suffer the madness.

More power to all those power shoppers out there! But not I. I prefer to sit in my living room and watch my girls decorate my Christmas tree, sip hot chocolate, and eat leftover sweet potato casserole.

Emma where were you looking for a TV? I got to target at nine pm and the line was wrapped around the entire building. I refused to join it and waited for the line to come to me. Got in the store about quarter after. They had so many TVs i could have taken my pick from anyone. They had dozens left when i got there.

Maybe this wasn’t the case at all targets.

We were at Sears. I wasn’t really involved in that project so I’m not sure if BF shopped around or just saw the deal at Sears and went for it or what. I think he went for “too good to be true” and if he’d gone for some deals that maybe weren’t as good he might not have come home empty handed.

I am still shopping the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. My nephew’s wife is a school librarian, and she is having a book fair this week sponsored by Barnes and Noble. I am doing all my Christmas shopping using the daily emails I get from Barnes and Noble, as I’m now a member since Borders closed, and plugging in her Book Fair ID. Going to a book signing there tonight. Now I’m the one coming home to a box every day with my name on it. Husband is quite jealous!

On a serious note, H still carries around an old fashioned briefcase, yet has to bring his work laptop everytime we travel since he’s a manager now. So, he’s always got two carryons before he even gets to his clothes. I just got one of those Deal of the Day emails from his favorite tech store and got him a very nice laptop case that can also act as a briefcase. Great price! Finally, a present that will be a surprise for him!

Montegut, those are nice. My mom used to carry a big old leather briefcase and write everything on paper… Then come home and type it up on her laptop! Now she has what you describe and it’s perfect because it fits right in there and saves a lot of time.

Plus my S is going to need a new violin for college, and that you don’t get on black friday:)

eBay had some deals where you could get a violin for $49.99 or so.
