What did you do when you found out you got into Harvard?

What did you do when you found out you got into Harvard?

my son was in class when I texted him and told him that he had received an e-mail with his acceptance. needless to say, he was VERY happy and excited!

D1 was a basket case, before and after getting the decision. She wouldn’t open the e-mail for an hour, then read it, screamed, ran across the room, fell sobbing onto the sofa and went into convulsions.

Two years later, D2 was on a band trip to Disney the day the decisions came out. We were to call her at 5:00 and read her the e-mail to let her know the outcome. She got in and full of excitement, we called her - no answer. The cell phone wasn’t on. 5:30 - same thing. 6:00. At 6:30 we called and caught her at dinner with friends in a noisy restaurant. She shouted “I can’t hear you - can you call me back in an hour or so?” Around 7:30 we finally reached her and told her she’d been accepted at Harvard. “Cool” she replied. :)

Like Guitars, our son was in school when decisions were released. Because he did not have his phone with him, he asked to borrow a friend’s phone to check his e-mail. Before he could check it however, the bell rang and he had to dash to class, so he wasn’t able to check until he got home. He was, of course, excited by the acceptance and was still in a celebratory mode when he got a call from the girl whose phone he had borrowed to congratulate him on the acceptance. He thanked her, and then realized that he hadn’t told anyone (other than us) about the acceptance. She explained that because he had already signed in to his e-mail account, she thought she would check out his acceptances for him!

My situation was unique in that I got a likely letter, so my “acceptance” came very unexpectedly in a phone call.

I was driving home from Mock Trial practice when my phone rang. I wouldn’t ordinarily answer the phone while driving, but I assumed it was just my mom, and I’d answer and tell her I was driving and would call her back. I picked up the phone, and it was not my mom, but “(Admissionsofficer) calling from the Harvard Admissions office!”
My chatty (and WONDERFUL) admissions officer proceeded to talk to me for five minutes about how my week was going and what I’d been up to. All the while, I was thinking, “WHAT IS GOING ON?!?” Eventually she told me. I screamed, didn’t believe her, and became an instant road hazard. The second I hung up, I started sobbing and didn’t stop until I got home.
When I got home, I hobbled into my house (having sprained my ankle two nights before…) and said, “Mom… I am pretty sure I may be moving to Boston…” and explained. She screamed painfully, and we went and got pizza! And that’s about all.

Ironically enough, when my official acceptance finally hit my email, I was sitting in the same pizza place I’d gone to to celebrate my likely.
