What did YOU do with your deferral/rejection letter?

tristan, I managed to turn my Yale supplement essay into the pton essay too, the stone one particularly. The essay sucks and doesn’t fit the prompt, but at least I’m done.

Well, that’s my theory, based on my observation that Harvard tends to take kids the other Ivies don’t want and on my dream that I got rejected from everywhere I applied to except for Harvard because Harvard called dibs on me in the annual Ivy Applicant Draft.

haha, the annual ivy applicant draft.

I’ve heard from more reputable sources that for some borderline applicants they do.

Pigs is an extremely reputable source.

Good point

yes i am!! :D

My letter got set on fire

^Why not just recycle it?

actually, a deferral letter is worth keeping

^It is, especially since there’s very little chance I’ll ever get an official letter from Yale ever again.

We have a wood stove and my mom needed paper to start the fire. I handed it to her. I really didn’t give a damn about the deferral. Just a bump in the road

^yep exactly

actually, i see the yale deferral as a promise that i will get into really good schools

I just realized that. :frowning: It makes me sad. Really sad.

Come on guys!! Lighten up!! Those of you deferred: it’s a deferral, not a rejection. BE OPTIMISTC!!! Yale recruits the MAJORITY of its class from RD. And ALL of you guys most definitely have a shot ^^

I think 10% isn’t so bad a chance at all. Compare that with the likelihood of being born, even assuming your parents were together (I think it’s in the order of 10^-30), and it’s not bad at all.

Ahhh man! I missed a whole great posting sessions!

So sad right now. Well, not as sad about having to redo my stanford supplement. Haha

The main two left are Penn and Stanford. (I do have to finish the why yale part though)

Can I throw in my own random theory just for kicks?

I think that Stanford is harder to get into than most of the ivies. It seems like they have a different set of characteristics they’re looking for.

Honestly, before I get flamed, I do not have any evidence or anecdotes to support this.

But does anyone see what I’m talking about or am I just a looney? (a likely possibility)

^ Penn and Stanford were my last ones too! Haha

I think that is true. I mean, for EA, Stanford really, and I mean really slaughtered some good applicants. Not even in the sense that their philosophy is to give out real decisions sooner, but they just look for other things. URM, I think? Idk, I’d like to see what other people have to say about this too :)

It’s not “harder” to get into because obviously the admit rate is about the same.

It IS harder to know what they’re looking for, because their review process is more holistic and less numbers-oriented than it is at other top schools (just based on looking at the people who did/did not get in, not on any official statement or anything). That can appear more daunting because it seems random, but that doesn’t make Stanford a “harder” school to get into.

It depends what school at Penn you are applying to. For example, if it were Nursing vs. Stanford… I say no more.
