What Did You Do With Your Old Albums?

We have two boxes of old albums that are sitting in a closet just taking up space. Each spring cleaning time I complain about them, but don’t know what to do with them. What have you done with yours? Do they have any value on Ebay? I don’t think we have any of real value like the Beatles White Album, etc, but I just can’t seem to get rid of them. I thought at one time of giving them away to our son’s soccer coach, a young 20 something, who is a bit of the artsy fartsy type, has a large collection of albums and DJs with them on occasion. Every once and a while I get nostalgic look at them for a memory and a smile, but that’s it. Several of them I have on CD now and I don’t even know where my turntable is and if it even works. They continue to take up space in the closet and collect dust!

I would also like to know this. We must have over 300 albums and like you, don’t know if turntable even works anymore. My oldest son used to hook it up and play old Pink Floyd and the Beatles …but no one else has used them for years.

As an experiment, I listed a couple on Amazon for $1 plus shipping–no hits.

They’re in the bottom of one of my closets, taking up space. :-)

My brother is in the process of digitizing our old albums and cleaning up the crackles and hisses. Now what are we going to do with an mp3 of the Electric Prunes? At least it won’t take up as much room…

We still have one of the old entertainment centers with a section for albums! They’re all still there. Years ago, I made up a database of all my old albums, with the intention of replacing them with CDs. I still have the albums…and now I have the CDs, too! :)

Today, I won an old record carrying case on Ebay. I bought it so DH has somewhere to put his old 45s!

We have 2 large boxes in the basement that were my parents from the 40s-50s. And a couple hundred more on the stereo shelves in our family room just in case the turntable ever gets fixed. Yeah right. But my husband would be upset if I ever mentioned getting rid of them, so they stay.

Not only do we have all the albums in the wallunit in the living room, but boxes and boxes of reel-to-reel tapes. My youngest says he’s going to see if he can get everything working this summer.

Oh I forgot cmbmom, we too have those boxes in the basement from our parents with all of their albums!

You do hate to just toss them, but they take up so much room!!

Not only do we still have ours, but my middle son keeps buying more. Argh. He brings them home, records them onto the computer, puts them on his I-pod, then leaves the records here. They are all classical recordings - he says they are orchestras and soloists not around anymore.

I have seen frames at Hobby Lobby for framing old album covers, and think that would be fun to do with one or two. My H is a packrat, so I think they are destined to stay in our basement forever. Maybe if we ever finish our basement, I’ll use them as wallpaper. My kids have decided we are going to do the basement “tacky”, so they’ll fit right in.

My college freshman D got a turntable and has picked my collection clean. She is the queen of retro cool in her dorm.

While we were visiting for Easter she picked up a K-Tel album I owned back in 1972! Had “Brandy” on it…

Oh, the A.M. memories.

Still have them.
Still play them.

Hmmm, I thought this thread would have all the answers :(. We have what appears to be the cc average of 2 boxes in the basement. Only use so far: DS has the album covers from some of his idols (Doors, Doobies, Santana, Led Zepp, Pink Floyd…) on his wall as decoration. The actual LP’s themselves are on the wall where his drum kit is (push pins in the center hole do the trick). He thinks it’s cool. I do too. Still leaves 95.5% of them unused; and I can’t say as the wall decor thing-y really counts.

We swapped most of our over the years at used record stores and replaced them with cd’s. I still have a boxed set of Beatles records on the floor in the back of my closet.

I just found this site, I may try and compile a list and send it in to see what they say.

my favorite band- still releases LPs
not that I have a needle for my turntable
but I get a 45 every year that I keep pristine for the day I do
Vinyl sounds better- I haven’t gotten rid of any of mine

[some people thought this was about drugs](<a href=“Pearl Jam - Spin The Black Circle lyrics | LyricsFreak”>http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pearl+jam/spin+the+black+circle_20106408.html</a>)

I’m saving mine to fund my retirement. I’m hoping that my original cover version of Rolling Stones’ “Satanic Majesty’s Request” will someday be the LP album version of a Honus Wagner baseball card.

Actually, I miss the LPs. I hated the skips and pops, but I liked looking at the covers and reading the liner notes while I played the albums. Those tiny pictures and little pamphlets you get with a CD just don’t cut it.

I’ve seen the centers cut out and used for things…laced together and made into a tote bag! Also…laced together and dangling from a doorway…sort of like a large version of those beads we had hanging from doorways. Lastly…on their own as drink coasters.

Don’t know what they do with the recording part of the record though!

I’m sure Martha Stewart would have some other decorating ideas…

On a different, but related topic, I recently said to a kid that they sounded like a broken record…they had no idea what this phrase meant!!!

It is comforting to know that I am not the only one with 2 boxes of old record albums in my basement.

Put em on the side of the road for trash pickup. Watched as someone stopped, checked them out, started to leave, came back and took them away. They left with a lovely (snort!) collection of Barry Manilow, Dan Fogelberg, and Queen.

Just bought a new turntable but it won’t play the old 78’s I have from my grandparents.Need to fix the old one. I have the Beatles first album “Meet the Beatles” but its a mess. I love album art and love looking at them.I threw out some because H refused to play them on the stereo they were in pretty bad shape. I wish I still had them. I have some really cool 45’s. Many of the Beatles Apple label which are cool.
Remember how part of listening to the music was knowing which song followed which. My son said that he has that same experience with the way he set up his ipod songs.
Anyway it’s 4 am, snowing and I can’t sleep. I’d love to be listening to my “Rascals” album!
