What did you give as a graduation gift?

Would love ideas for high school graduation gift for our daughter.

Have been asking my daughter what she would like for the past 3 months; no luck…I’ll be curious to see what pops up here…

a laptop, a necklace, a watch and… room, board, tuition at a private for four years. some lucky kid! ;)

I bought my S some clothes from Univ of Del - a hat, a sweatshirt, shorts and sweatpants - I think he likes it, because he’s been wearing them everyday for a week!

Tiffany bracelet. Gotta love the little blue box.

A wetsuit. She is a marine bio major.

A Windows 7 Phone :-). I know, I’m a bad parent… no iPhone 4…

we gave money to buy stock, son is a finance major. I got a watch which I lost within a few months. :(

I suggest something meaningful to your D.

A Macbook and a college education

I’m hoping to get Taylor swift tickets

I gave S a Kindle with a nice cover. I made a word collage (different typefaces, font sizes) of words that describe him (funny, kind, sarcastic, compassionate, smart, etc.), with his name at the top, and wrote him a short letter about how proud we are and printed the two pages to a PDF, which I put on the Kindle before I gave it to him. I set it so that the word collage was the first thing he saw when he powered it up.

He is a world-champion eye-roller about mushiness, so I was completely prepared for a “Mooooooommmmmm…ugh!!!” but was absolutely delighted to get instead a big smile and a “That is really nice!”

A class ring. Her request.

4G Android phone (his request)…had him pick it out. Also getting 4 year of education…no loans.

We bought DD new luggage and filled it with things for college – some useful (shampoo, etc.), some fun (college insignia t-shirt and beach towel, etc.). You can be creative about what you include.

James Avery rings.

A graduation party, room, board, tuition at a private for four years, a highend MacBook (architecture major) with all the bells and whistles, a family vacation (weekend in NYC and a cruise to Bermuda with family) - I want to come back in my next life as my kids.

Not gifts for a daughter, but DS received a GPS and new hub cubs for his car and luggage.

I want my GPS back. It’s been in his car for months. His new one has more whistles and bells.

He lost one hubcub in construction on the way home from his interview in Kansas City with the alumna from that techy school in Cambridge that shall not be named at least until grad school. He lost another somewhere this spring in one of our lovely potholes. Can’t find matches to the two that he still has, so he gets to pick out four new ones.

Luggage will be more for the two family trips this summer and future trips. He will be going to school 180 miles away so for trips home, he will likely throw stuff in the back seat. But he may also be the designated ride home for friends without a car, so a piece of luggage in the trunk might make those trips more comfortable for everyone.

Gave S a nice set of golf clubs (he used his dad’s while playing on the high school team) and a bag in his college colors.

A GPS is a good idea. S used graduation gift money to purchase one. Laptop is a good idea too, if they don’t already have one.

I like the idea of college gear…tshirt, sweats, etc

For girls: Jewelry is always nice.

I gave D a new Mac, her Dad gave her a nice check and Step-Mom gave her an I-phone.

Laptop. .
