[personal side note: If anyone can help me…

I have UW 3.72, SAT of 2140 (whoo boy, totally going to retake that in June), SAT II W. History 800, a couple of ECs, most rigorous course load offered, pretty good essay writing, & guaranteed awesome recs…is there anything I can do to help myself? Because I’m feeling pretty average…Oh. I’m a girl if that matters at all.]

hmm… come on future whartonites… id like to know too… lolol

there are a gazillion people on this section of cc that have been admitted to wharton… well maybe not a gazillion, but still… :)

Help us outt…

come on u guys, help 2011 out.

I was admitted ED to Wharton c/o 2010

Stats: 3.8 UW, top 3%, 2080 SAT (740 M, 700 W, 640 R, 11 E), ACT 29

ECs: Founder/President of a Freshmen mentoring program, Boys’ State, Boy Scouts (Life Scout), and other school and community activities.

Strengths: My essays conveyed my deep interest to be at Penn.

Biggest Weakness: I thought my SAT scores were a bit low. I only had two years of a language (Penn recommends four).

Advice: Competition is going to get stronger. You have to find any way, however minor or major it be, to distinguish yourself from the pack.

I believe that being accepted to Wharton, involves knowing how to present yourself professionally in the application. For instance, I had many ECs to write about, so I sent in an activity list. I wrote, in detail, what I did and how I developed as a person, leader etc. Refine your application and make sure you are 1000% satisfied with it before you click the submit button.

I also advise that you ask other people to review your application, especially the essays. Seek an objective perspective. I sought my AP English teacher and she helped me develop my essay, which I believe was one of the stronger aspects of my application.

I hope this helps. You have good quantatative stats, and I wish the best of luck to you.

I applied early to Wharton 2010, was deferred, then accepted regular decision.
Stats: 3.98 Uw GPA, SAT: 2240, SAT II: Math 2 -790, Chem -730, Lit-780.
EC - Crew Captain, Newspaper Editor, Debate Captain, swim team
Strengths: I think I looked fairly good on paper and during the interview
Weaknesses: I had trouble expressing myself in the essays

Advice: As Lucky98 said, stand out. Make sure your essays are stellar, because more often than not, that is what will give you the extra inch. My essays weren’t very good - too generic, but once I got deffered, I wrote a really focused and thoughtful letter. Presentation is 9/10ths of the game. Also, one more thing: make sure you discuss why you want to go to Wharton. When I first wrote my essay, I only discussed Penn in general, but in the letter I wrote after deferral, I discussed specific programs in Wharton. Don’t be generic. Always be specific.

And good luck! You are just as qualified as everyone else (your SAT’s don’t matter THAT much). Euphoric_potato: most of the game is in your hands now - present yourself well!

Thanks a lot for the replies!

I’m a bit iffy about my GPA but I’m definitely going to do my best. :)
